Far East Rand Hospital - Out Patients Department

The hospital is very clean like a private hospitals. You wouldn't think you're in a government hospital.

Good day my mum was a patient at the hospital. She had a stroke and was only admitted the following morning bt lay at the passage for a day before she got a bed. Mum was doing fine until she got discharged the Wed the 7th of June 2023 and we were going to put her in a facility in Friday the 9th of June 2023. Mums breathing was not okay on the Thursday the 8th of June 2023. My brother and I got to the hospital around 9 to sort out a wheel chair and we proceeded to the hospital ward 6 to now go and fetch her. This is where she was battling to breathe and was cold. I then went to the nurses and told them and they said it's normal she was discharged yesterday. I work in a trauma unit myself and went back to my mum and off course could hardly feel a pulse. I screamed and shouted for help no one came then I found a white doctor there and called him. I said to him my mum is dying help her.he said she suffering fri from hypothermia. I said NO doctor I cant feel a pulse. I asked him can you not put her in ICU.his response we dont put patients in ICU and sick and that is over 70. So I asked him basically you telling me she is left there to die and he shook his head. I then asked him if we could do a blood gas to check her oxygen levels and she said they dont do that. I asked him can you maybe put a drip up. I helped him to try and find a vein and we couldn't i pricked my mum four times with the help of another doctor. There was no oxygen tanks there to help her breath properly. NOTHING.
Few minutes after that my mum had made a stool when I asked the nurse aid to help me she said your mum is discharged I can do it.she handed me the nappy and a apron and gloves to use.very rude when I asked her if she can help me lift her up.damm cheek.
Now your hospital refused to help over 70s bt the least you could have done is made her comfortable to die in a proper way.
Mum was left there to die a horrible death. There was also a occupational therapist that was there that witnessed everyhingt. She even tried to give my mum physio.
I understand we donot have medical aid bt is that anyway for a patient to die under those circumstances? The doctor then pronounced her dead. It was our mother that died not some animal.

Not going to lie they get busy extremely busy. You have be patient and wait for them. Don't get angry or impatient they do assist you with almost anything. But mention exactly what's wrong doctor's check me thoroughly. Only be patient even in the ward the nurses attend to many people so you have to be patient but they do assist. Be nice be respectful and they help. Only try and get your hospital card to avoid having to wait to long the quicker you get it the better.

Honestly I heard lots of bad stories about FERH. But. My grandmother broke her hip and i took her to Far eastrand hospital. They toom her for x-rays and immediately admitted her. She was there for a week then they operated and did a hip replacement. The nurses in ward 10 looked good after her. And the physio was also helpful.
After 3month up and down to steve biko and not once did they admit her.

Well done staff and doctors of FERH keep it up.

To be honest according to my assessment the hospital is excellent and good the treatment is nice highly professional in medical care no complain so far am happy.

Have a major bleeding might be main vain and have to join que for a file first THAT IS bantopele
Let them die first

The admin process takes time but, once admitted the wards are clean and the Operational Manager Mr Bheki Dube is amazing. Thank you for the special care.
