Restaurant Glenda's reviews
44Gotta love glendas. The best. Try the salmon fish cakes or the mussels.the absolute best. Food and service is tops. Try it.
Fabulous breakfast joint! Perfect eggs Benedict, great coffee and a very relaxed vibe. 100% will be returning!
My family had a Mother's day reservation and were ill treated from their arrival until they left (even wmthough they finished within their allocated booking time)
Suffice to say I AM NEVER GOING BACK, what a disappointing experience. You guys have lost whatever touch you've ever had. Sies!
The roast chicken is a perfect meal to share on Sunday afternoons. The salads are always fresh & staff friendly.
It’s a rip off having to pay R90 just for eggs and tomato. The scenery and ambiance does not warrant such an expensive breakfast.
What a serene place! Their interior is so unique and inviting. We booked a table for our Book Club - Books and Spaces - and sat outside.
The reception and service was amazing. The food was amazing - I had Glenda's Burger with their crispy chips and I loved them!
N. B: Always tip your waiters/waitresses outside of the bill so the money goes straight to them. If you have no cash, ask for their digits to do an electronic transfer.
A disappointing lunch experience last week. The waiting staff were totally out of synch with us as patrons and it was very annoying. As soon as we sat down our Waitron presented us with the menus and stood there expecting us to order straight away. We asked her to come back when we had had a chance to decide. She came back in about 5 mins when she could see we hadn't even looked at the menu. Our table was very close to the serving area so the staff could observe us easily. We then had to call the attention of another Waitron
to take our order. At the end of the meal I asked for the bill and after being given it the Waitron hovered waiting for me to pay. I had to wave her away! She should have noticed that my guest and i were having a serious and emotional conversation and been more perceptive and not to interrupt. I looked around the seating area twice to understand why they were rushing us but there were plenty available tables. We were there less than an hour. I have seen business people sit there for hours with their laptops ordering just a cup of coffee. The staff should be better trained to be more aware of the needs of the patrons. All in all it was an annoying experience and I doubt we will be back.
I made a lunch booking on Friday 10 Feb for Valentines day. I explained to the person taking the booking that it was for a very special occasion, my son was getting married in the morning on Valentines Day and we were going to celebrate over lunch. I asked for a table outside.
On Monday, I called to increase the number of guests and to change the time. Again, I mentioned the special occasion and discussed the champagnes that were available.
On the way to the venue I called to add another person to the table.
When we arrived I announced myself and said that I had made a booking. They hurriedly started to push tables together. Another staff member remembered the booking and said that my table was outside.
There is no connect with the inside tables and the outside tables. She indicated to a number of unoccupied tables and said "sit anywhere"! The tables were covered with stained, insipid tablecloths with not a single table setting or decor. They looked much like you'd find at a school bazaar or on the side of the rode at a vendors stall selling vetkoek!
Not one person, in all the times that I had called, thought to mention that the outside tables were unsuitable for a celebration meal. What a huge disappointment!
Saw the trend of reviews mainly about poor service but gave them the benefit of the doubt and went to try it last week anyway. Unfortunately my experience was no different. Meals are very expensive and portions are not great, but the service is incredibly bad.
To the owners - patrons are sending a clear message from the reviews
Decided to have a ladies breakfast to end off the year and greeted at the door with a brash - " we are closing at 12pm today ". It was 9am.
Got seated and the rest went down hill from there.we eventually made head way - Getting our food eventually after asking it's been a while when can we expect our food. Having "pancakes" which are actually flap jacks or English muffin look a like. The "fresh cream" turned out to be sour cream as they had run out of fresh cream. If we weren't calling our lady to get more coffee etc we would have dehydrated. After ordering another fresh juice from the menu was followed by. "we don't have stock" once more.and still charged full price.
There was an unbearable/ overwhelming smell of fish that would put anyone off their meal.and just bad service all round. Won't come here again.
Undoubtedly one of the worst meals we’ve had. The service was shocking and the food was decidedly average. We chose the restaurant as it was one of the few outdoor options that are wheelchair accessible.
I always Glenda’s tricky. It’s always a mixed experience. Lovely setting but poor service especially when you sit outside. I always expect a premium experience but basic expectations aren’t met like prompt service or frequent check-ins.
The food was decent. The fish cake was delicious. And the pancakes afterwards was lovely. The asparagus, eggs and truffle was just okay.
But sitting outside in the sun and people watching is always welcome. Slowing down the pace of life just a few meters from a fast paced Jan Smuts Avenue.
Loved Glendas on my first visit, however, really regretting that I suggested it for my sisters 30th: (From the start, the service was just not great, it was not very welcoming and the standard of the food was poor. Eggs were ordered; easy over and we received raw egg. I am disappointed. I feel like we were missing a little finesse, good food (for the price we paid) and friendliness all we got was rush and hast and not the best experience.
So sad to have suggested Glendas, never again.
Unique deco. It was ideal for a feminine Women's Day brunch. Friendly staff, small little surprize delicacies on the menu. The American pancake was such a sweet and tangy unique dish.
We were so excited to stop for a lunch. The service was good. We ordered the Caesar salad and the coronation salad. Sadly the portions were so small! We do not have big appetites and had to go get eat another meal 2 hours later due to the portion size. Charging R150 for 5 small straps of chicken in a sauce with a roti ans some lettuce is sad. Up your portions.
Nice place for a Sunday lunch right off Jan Smuts. The waiters seemed a little disinterested. The winner was the food. Hubby had the potato mash and lamb shank, and I had the seabass which was made to perfection.
This is a beautiful cafe with pretty seating areas and cute aesthetically. But unfortunately that's all they are good for. The menu is severely disappointing starting with the limited options and most importantly how over priced things are. Im pretty sure an orange juice does not need to be R65. That's more than triple the normal price at a restaurant for a simple juice. Owners need to review this immediately.
The aesthetic is so pretty but I was definitely not impressed with the menu or the service. I was actually underwhelmed.
My son took us out for breakfast last Saturday and what a lovely eating - out experience we enjoyed in the early morning wintery sunlight piercing through the large surrounding trees. The waitrons were attentive friendly and efficient, our meals were beautifully presented within an acceptable time period. Comes highly recommended
Glenda's is always an absolute treat; makes one feel like they're in a different world! They have a variety of tea, carrot cake that is moist, baked cheesecake that's bursting with flavour and exceptional service! Their pork belly is generous and amazing, though I'd prefer the cabbage to not be overcooked or rather served with bok choi. I'll definitely be back sooner than later!
