Hornbill Lodge and Legends Restaurant reviews
57I enjoyed this place alot, been here a few times. The atmosphere is awesome and it is also mostly outdoors surrounded by trees and a mountain. This place has a pool for birthday parties and you are also allowed to pre-book and have a picnic. Definitely go and enjoy this calming river atmosphere with lovely food.
Very peaceful, kid-friendly lodge with excellent scenery for photography. Worthwhile getaway from the city.
It is supposed to be a dog friendly venue, but our dogs were attacked by a mongrel fat old staffy. The owner reluctantly pulled the attack dog away. A beer and a cider was R80, it is very overpriced. The decor and ambiance feels very " hillbilly". This a don't bother venue, you can do much better elsewhere.
It's OK. Beautiful views.the surroundings are so good the actual food is a let down. Ask for sunny Side up eggs or easy over or soft eggs dont worry they all cooked the same. Nothing to write home about.
Beautiful place if you want to be in nature. Their signature designer milkshakes are something I've never experienced anywhere else. I highly recommend this place for friends and family outings.
Venue looks great, even though there was a little bit of work busy at the time. Food and drinks prices were much higher than we could ever have imagined, so we just drank something for about a bill of R120.
Resturant in a Valley If they can thoroughly clean their tumbler glasses, their knife had a bad smell is now the second time. Pls clean your eating utensils. The table we seated at was never dusted nor disinfected. The place is made beautiful by being surrounded by mountains n flowing river.m now relaxed their many dogs called babies
Just an enquiry was dissapoiting and that is an understatement. I'm shocked. Sorry not for my kind
Thank you so much to Hornbill. The picnic I booked for my husband's 50'th birthday was superbly done! The food was delicious and more than enough. The setting was beautiful and they were all so friendly and helpful. I would recommend them wholeheartedly!
Went with my friends for lunch and was disappointed as the place was closed for a private function.so disappointing as the security at the gate would have let us know instead of having to wait on their drive through only to be told at the main entrance
Great Place for a quick getaway, picnic. Food was great. However, I made one Big Mistake. Entrusted them to setUp an outdoor Birthday decor. Sending a pic in advance giving them an idea of what was required did not Help. In the End the Decor was abt 6 Balloons @ R200! I could've done far better for less. Tip: if you going to need party Decor for the day, rather Send in your Own team Day before or very Early on Day of event to set it Up. Otherwise u may just be left feeling punctured at end of it like we did.
This is a jewel destination in Gauteng very close to Johannesburg and Pretoria. You will see from my photos why I state that this lodge is exceptional.
The fishing spot is the best for fishing with the kids or grandfather
You can fish and be served with food and drink while fishing
There is a variety of fish in this part of the Magalies river. The fly fisherman will be rewarded early morning and late afternoon
Bass, carp - large sized grass carp and barbel have been caught. Its quite exciting to hook a bass on fly and the odd trout might surprise you upstream from the lodge. A large amount of trout was released by the hotel staff upstream a few years ago
The Lodge offer a large variety of activities. I can recommend the hiking trials, the views from the top of the mountain behind the lodge is excellent
The Spa is a treat for a tired fisherman or a spoil for the fisherman’s wife!
The deck next to the waterfall is a treat a real treat with sound of the waterfall and the best crumbed mushrooms!
Nature lovers come stay over for two nights it will fill you with new energy!
Absolutely fantastic food and the price is just crazy to think you can get a Burger bigger than most costing half of what it would cost at any other place. And they toast the buns to boot. 10/10 will come again.
Unfortunately a let down. Went camping hoping for a peaceful relaxing weekend away. Needless to say, we only lasted one night. The lodge and campsite are surrounded by the Rustenburg Road Highway and the sound of the traffic drowns out any feeling of tranquility from the moment you arrive. What made it worse was the droning sound of chain saws and weedeaters on the other side of the river. The facilities require a lot of maintainance. Its a beautiful spot so it's a pity because I know there's nothing they can do about the noise. Do wish we had been forewarned though.
Fantastic venue. Awesome 5km hiking trail, zig zagging through a mountain and rain forest. Clean facilities, cold beer, and super friendly service. Would definitely recommend
Once you add half a pot of salt the starters and mains is edible enough, just the taste of gas burner unfortunately remains. The chips are amazing. The gourmet milkshake was disappointing. Decent view and atmosphere
Best place for little kids to swim.
Best spots for fishing with a spectacular variety of fish and entertainment areas! Plus amazing food and people.
Dirty (or as stated repaired bath) pic attached. The Bed looked like there was bodily fluids on the throw over the bed, claimed to be washing powder.
There was something funny under the sheet as well as hair found on the pillow casings.
We were offered a second room which did not prove to be any better.
Definitely not recommended!
Nice little get-away spot just about an hour way from JHB, Bed and Breakfast lodge. Can be self catered or enjoy the local restaurants in the area. Would be ideal as a small retreat for a weekend or as a family group, friendly, helpfull and ocomodating staff. Local game drives and outdoor activities within a short 15 to 20 minutes of the lodge. Fly fishing venues are available in the area however the river on premises was not ideal for the avid fisherman at the time of our stay
I was very disappointed with the "luxury" accommodations. There where no luxury to be found and for the price we paid, we expected a lot more.
At first glance the place looks fine, but then you get to notice the funky smell in some of the rooms and in the kitchen. The toilet water from the second floor, leaks into the kitchen which stinks and is very unsanitary.
The bar stools are so flimsy, you can barely sit on them. It is very clear that nothing in this place ever gets replaced properly.
The outside area where you can braai and sit around a table is also a mess. The wooden table and chairs are placed on very uneven ground and are also falling apart.
Regarding the swimming pool area there are always very loud music being played and you can't have a decent quiet time there if you want to get away from the city.
