I am 14 months clean and serene - thank you Houghton House! My life has changed immeasurable since I was there in September 2022. I now live in freedom from active addiction and can look towards my future with hope. I am more grateful than words can express; the staff, with their knowledge, compassion and sometimes tough love, continue to be a big part of my recovery. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This is the worst rehabilitation center ever - ask my why I say that, I'll tell you in full detailed, 12 paragraphs!

If you are looking for an 5 star resort or hotel I think you should look somewhere else but if you are serious about your problem and recovery there is no other place I would recommend. Thanks guys you changed my life and I will always be great full for that.

I was blessed to have found recovery as an alcoholic in Houghton House in January 2003. God willing I will be 20 years sober in January 2023. I still follow all the suggestions, attend AA meetings and thank God every day for my sobriety.

Houghton House was a sad and regretful experience for me. My wife was admitted, and after two months of therapy, I discovered she was having an affair with one of the facility's long-term residents. Houghton avoided taking any responsibility for the issue, not even replying to an email or meeting request to discuss it.

**Update: Houghton responded to my review and scheduled a meeting with me to discuss my concerns about what transpired.  Dan listened to my concerns and went out of his way to make amends, assuring me that they would take the appropriate steps to address the issues presented.

Despite an overwhelming amount of referrals for this rehab facility - many seem to overlook or are unaware of the internal mishaps that occur. Some which can potentially be fatal to patients within the facility. A loved one of mine recieved a severe head-injury in the facility after her medication was reduced and not monitored correctly. When I noticed the negative changes during a visit 3 days later - that was when I was first notified of her collapsing and hitting her head. I was only then recommended to take her to the nearest hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, I noticed the medication packed and sent with me was unfamiliar and once going over the prescription stickers on the box I realised they had included TWO other patients medications mixed in. When I notified them, they blamed it on not having enough boxes to seperate the medications - followed with "You know, the education level and competence of nurses in South Africa is very low"
I find it hard to believe that this is the first time this has happened and do not feel like the patients recieve the access to the correct medical assistance (unless you pay extra). It should be mandatory for a medicated patient to have access to a Psychiatrist in a regular basis within the facility. Houghton House outsource theirs from another popular rehabilitation facility and she only stops by twice a week. When asked to speak to her, I had to pull teeth and in the end never recieved a call back despite trying to get hold of her day after day. It's incredibly unprofessional and quiet honestly dangerous.

Best alcohol detox and drug rehab in johannesburg these guys deal with all types of addiction and run 24/7 if you're looking for somewhere to get off a hectic drug and alcohol addiction - I can't recomend this recovery center any higher - 100% for effort care and longlevity of the addiction recovery programme

A special place filled with saints running around helping lost souls find that piece of themselves that at some point we all realise is all we actually have been searching for. That piece has made me whole and that place is Houghton House.

Working for Houghton House has been a profound privilege. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing people in recovery create a life in which numbness is no longer necessary for survival. You all bring me so much joy.

As a the best drug rehab in Johannesburg, Houghton House have helped so many people I know (I seem to have a problem choosing my friends!) - they must be the most consistently successful rehabilitation center in the country. Thank you.

In reply to the answer: I do have some of my friends and a very close family member back. Yes.
Others went to other less reputable rehabs and came out more medicated more suicidal and more messed up – some are not with us anymore and that’s so sad
I am not saying that HH is the only good rehab - but it’s the only one I know I can trust – I can only highly recommend them as the best drug and alcohol rehab in Johannesburg

My Brothers constant trouble with drug addiction has been a problem for years. We have tried every rehab in Johannesburg Houghton House has been the most successful - I pray that my brother stays on the programme

This fantastic rehab in Johannesburg has given me back my hope.
For the first time I feel that I can overcome my personal battle with alcohol and addiction. No other drug rehab has ever managed to get to the crux of my problem. Thanks to the brilliant counsellors and Alex for showing me the path. I will always be thankfull.

12 years ago I was admitted to Houghton House Rehab, this has to be one of the best things that happened to me! All aspects of Houghton House are in a league of their own!

Total lack of compassion for families and rude staff. Counsellor failed to carry out things agreed negatively impacting a family. In an emergency situation regarding an unborn staff asked if the baby is dying that it’s that urgent. Reception refused to inform the patient being the father. The call was placed on hold expecting the mother to hold on for 30 minutes until someone was available to assist. Also lied of giving messages to those concerned. Absolute lack of information of the programm given to both patient and family prior to and upon admission. Had to learn as it went on which after being addressed with staff was not attended to based on critical situations. Patients healing and recovery influences a level of selfishness. Group counselor was rude to family member in allowing to speak and expressed most of his experience with a partner in recovery with the idea of “ walk on eggshells” mentality Once they complete the programme. Totally disappointed and appalled by the ethic of staff. Staff refused to divulge senior or head of facility details to address these concerns.
