Jan Smuts House Museum reviews
37Best and most peaceful place to be. You can take your dogs with, and order food for them.and take them for a long walk as well. What a beautiful place!
Commemorative Delville Wood trees planted after the battle just outside the Jan Smuts Museum grounds.
Was a very nice day. The kids loved the walk and the house inside. The food was super nice although definitely pricey. Will be back again for sure.
A lovely afternoon out. Really worth a visit. The tea and scones was delicious. The hike is worth exploring. It is pet friendly too. Remember to bring cash to pay R10 for entering for parking.
Absolutely amazing! The experience was greta to see the history of Jan Smuts and his family! The hiking trail was also a A+
Give a glimpse into the live of Jan Smuts.
Based on the info quite a remarkable man and his wife also.
Worth the visit and entry fee into the house very reasonable.
Tea garden also worth visiting after your of the house.
Visited Ouma Isie's restaurant on her birthday the 22nd nd December. Lovely tranquil surroundings.
Prices to see the museum and have a good time time hanging around here and going on the hiking trails are good. It's a perfect outing for couples and families who don't want to break the bank.
Had a simple, but healthy meal under the glorious shade of the trees. The House was not open, so we wandered around with the dogs, using the relics to transport us back to a past age.
Great experience. Really a gem and will visit again. Thank you for the opportunity to experience a piece of history.
Nice to take the doggies for a walk. Restaurant scones are delish. They are kind by offering water bowls for the doggies. Only R 10 to get in.
The Smuts House is an amazing place to visit and go back in time to an important time in our country's history. Well kept and very informative.
The house and the property is the actual residence in where general Smuts lived.
There is a picnic area on the property as well as Ouma Issie's Restaurant, named after general Smuts' wife. The menu catera for breakfast and light lunch and the food is amazing, fresh and very well priced. Ideal place to host small functions such as baby showers, birthday parties etc.
The property also has a big picnic area where visitors can bring their own food and drink and spend the day with the family under the huge old trees with a few ox-wagon randomely parked between thetrees. Bring camping chairs if you plan on a picnic, as this area is not completely covered with grass.
Over weekends one can do runs on the adjacent property with Adventure Trails with distances between 2.5km and 15km along the Sesmylspruit and in the koppie behind Smuts House. These hikes / runs are pet friendly.
We visit Smuts House at least once a month and it is really a gem.
A well marked short trail great for some fresh air for people and dogs. Very affordable! Peaceful! Good facilities.
Curious, fascinating museum and a lovely old school tea garden hidden away in the beautiful surroundings of a quiet little pocket of Centurion. Younger Smuts a remarkably resemblance Daniel Craig, who will play him within the decade, in an awkward epic critique of British liberal racist imperial splendour.
Food and service has always been great in the many years that I have been frequenting Ouna Issie's Tea Garedn. Taking your furry child is also a bonus. A refreshing time out to just relax. The Place of Quiet offers you the opportunity to just be stil and reflect on whatever may be on your mind. For the more active, the 2.3 km Oubaas Trail that takes you to the top where the monument is, is well worth the walk with beautiful views. I can strongly recommend as a nice morning or day out.
Lovely restaurant with manager enthusiastic and present. They still make real scones using ouma Issie's recipe!
Friendly service in a nice setting. Food was tasty and they do offer doggy breakfasts for your four legged children as well. Pet friendly.
If you have driven the black Cadilac or slept on the horse hair bed.
Then we are equals.
There is a long story here.
Let's just say that I was a VIP driver in 1985 and had both such opportunities.and it was as a result of boredom whilst waiting for the late night whiskey lubricated meetings to run dry.
Enough said. I have not just seen history. I have relived, felt and dreamt it too.
(I have also had the distinct privilege of looking upon the white sands of the Shoshi River from South African soil. Whilst watching the baboons border breach from Zimbabwe on the right.to Botswana on the left.all the while very comfortably seated on international Statesman General Jan Smuts' doorless brick sh*t house!) LOL
Had a very pleasant 2nd visit. Delicious food, best ice cream ever, magnificent coffee and excellent table service. Enjoyed the lovely outdoor seating and tranquility. Will be back soon!
