John Dory's Jean Avenue reviews
23The Oil on the fish seemed to have been used many a times. Normally I get fresh hake and it is not in dark fish oil
Delicious. Their Strawberry Daquari had solid ice blocks in it tho. But the food and service was pleasant.
I've always loved John Dory's @ Jean Crossing, I used to eat and order there a lot. But right before covid the quality of food has gone down terribly! I don't know if there's a new owner, I believe so. But it's just not what it used to be, I'd rather drive to Menlyn and get decent food there than order or eat @ JD's Jean Crossing again.
Poor food, extremely overpriced
Although the staff try to make up with service, the food has repeatedly been poor.
Fish dishes drowning in oil, sushi cut so thin that the fish is barely visible.
Avoid.
Awesome fish and sushi, was great to tuck into it. Just the right spice, grilled to perfection, sushi was expertly created.
Service was friendly and efficient, but we didn't feel rushed or pressured to finish.
What a great experience!
We love John Dory's and where ever we go we will visit a John Dory's in that town and rate them against the others we have visited, tonight we got served by Howard at Jean crossing John Dory's, what a pleasant chap he was, friendly and to the "T" he was. We got served Pronto and yet again the food was very tasty and prepared with care, mmmm, must say you are one point ahead of St Lucia, but then again we enjoyed St Lucia too just like we enjoyed Jean crossing John Dory's!
We always have a great experience dinning at John Dory's Jean Avenue!
The sushi is always fresh and delicious (some of the best I've ever had), mains are superb (the hake and chips is highly recommended) ; and the staff are always really friendly and attentive - even on busy nights. The Manger can always be seen walking around, checking on tables and I could really see that they were trying their best to make it a pleasant experience for everyone.
JD's offers half price sushi on Wednesdays, which is excellent value for money. Just make sure to reserve a table or else you might be waiting in a queue for a while!

It has been a long time since we last visited JD's. It was a nice and quiet evening. Our waitress was very friendly and competent, she got all our orders spot on. We odered fish cakes and Crab & Cream cheese bombs to share as starters. This was delicious. For mains I had a Surf & Turf and my husband the Calamari tubes and chorizzo dish. We both had veg with our mains. You can get a fairly goid meal at a very reasonable price at JD's.
I visited John D Jean Avenue this evening for the first time and I must say the food was terrible, me and my partner ordered Prawns & Calamari strips Combo and the rice was off completely we then got a replacement, but this time the Calamari strips were so salty we couldn't eat the food at all. On the other hand the waitress was very nice. With that being said I won't and wouldn't advise anyone to visit JD Jean crossing.
Wouldn't eat there again! Food was very dry and tasteless. We ordered a platter for one and a sushi prawn platter (still arguing that it wasnt prawn), lets just say i took one bite asked for a take away box and gave it to somone next to the road.
Very good, friendly Service. Food very nice
Child friendly. Kids like to play in and outside
Disappointed with take away service. They didn't have plastic cutlery, No sachets of even salt or pepper, serviettes dololo.
Not very happy with the service at all been waiting for food for a long time table wasn't cept clean bearly saw our waitress
Great food, friendly staff and where i was sitting gave me a clear view tobthe play area so I can see exactly what my babies where doing and with who.
Service was not as bad as the food and the prep time of the meals ordered. It would actually help if the manager checks the kitchen and customers instead of sitting at the entrance the whole night.
The place wasn't clean, there were flies all over the place and air-conditioning was working the place was hot. I didn't enjoy the meal at all.
Always a pleasure to visit this branch, they have a new VR setup for the kids (and adults if you can fit into the booth) that is fantastic entertainment, and is free! This would have been a 5 star review, what brought it down was the new tacos on the menu, definitely not tasty or worth the price. Other than that will definitely go back again just will order something else.
Sushi night was great and selection of sushi and sashimi is really great. Good for a family night out
Really good atmosphere for going out to lunch or supper and prices are within range. Food is good but either then that u can't expect more -
Sushi.was very disappointing. I order sushi very often from John Dorys at Vaal Mall.
Portions are much smaller here at Centurian Branch.
Rice was very wet and sticky. Prawn avalanche was much smaller than what I am used to at Vaal Mall branch. Salmon Roses too.vety small. Avo.tiny pieces just placed on top. Not roled in as Im used to.
Not very good value for money.
