KōL Izakhaya

Everything is amazing in this restaurant, from the food to the atmosphere. I had lamb chops which tasted so good. They were so fresh and juicy not forgetting the wings and sides. The atmosphere is breathtaking, my God! I would recommend it for late-night dates!

This restaurant is a rip off.
Food portions were very small and food was good but average.
We left hungry and the bill was 1600.
Nothing outstanding!

We ate the sushi and dim sum and were so disappointed. We paid a fortune for less than average food. The service and atmosphere were great though.

The restaurant has a nice ambiance. Food is okay and falls short on flavours. Nothing that will compel me to come back.

Didn't get to eat, not the restaurants fault but the drinks menu is on point! Loved the Jager Wasabi shot as well as the Saki served warm. Definitely going back soon.

Kōl is a beautiful, modern style Japanese restaurant. The service is great.

I had ABURI SAKE HARAMI which is a lightly cooked salmon nigiri with black rice. It’s average. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are not fan of raw fish.

I recommend the Prawn Tempura California Rolls. It comes as a serving of 8 pieces.

For dessert, I recommend Binchotan Chokoreto Brownie which is flambéed with liquor and the Chokoreto Brownie.

In total, you would spend about R500+ per person including drinks depending on what you order.

Great, authentic flavour profiles, beautifully presented plates, good service, excellent ambience - altogether make for a great dining experience.

The prices are not cheap, but it’s expected for a fine dining restaurant. The cocktails are the best for me. I’ve been here countless times, and will be returning for many times.

Do you know how I know that this place was Sterling? Not one person at our table of 9 asked for any chillies. Everything was perfect and did not need anything to make it better. It was 100% perfect.

KõL is an excellent restaurant. Food is a delicious fusion style cooking that makes every bite satisfying. It gets busy so booking is a must. However, its quality is reflected in its higher than normal prices. Despite the higher cost KõL is definitely worth checking out and it's classy ambience make it a perfect spot for a date.

The concept is good, and significant effort went into the 'look and feel' of the restaurant. However, I found the general quality of the food quite poor - particularly given the exorbitant pricing (which couldn't cover the cost of decent chopsticks - throwaway takeaway versions had to do).

Was excited to be going, but certainly won't be going back and will not recommend to anyone.

Kol was on our list of restaurants to dine at for a very long time. My partner and I finally decided to dine there for date night, we were both very excited about the evening, but to our dismay, it was highly disappointing.

We had ordered both types of oysters and the prawn haargau to start. The oysters left an ocean taste lingering in our mouths the entire night and the flavours were not complementary.
For mains, we had ordered the duck and braised short rib. The duck was ordered medium-rare and was served cold (besides it being a very small portion for the price). We had sent it back to the kitchen and received a hot, medium to well-done meal instead. It was served with a cold purée and under seasoned corn fritter. The braised lamb was tough and under seasoned to the point of where we left most of it uneaten. We had then finished off with the Mochi ice-cream to share. It was average as some of the ice cream had crystallised. The best part of our entire experience was the cocktails and dumplings and our waiter was knowledgeable and tried his best. There was no manager to be seen on the floor either. Definitely overrated for the price and doubt we would be returning.

Best not to go there. If I could give "0" star, I would.

I booked a table for 4 for my own BIRTHDAY DINNER. We sat down and never seen our waiter again until we have to looking to get service.
Order 4 beers.took 20 minutes to get it.then no waiter to be found (but there are so many people working! They just ignored customer or POORLY TRAINED?)

Ordered food.took forever and 2 of my dishes didn't arrive, asking where are they.oh the sushi station is very busy at the moment (I ran restaurants before, dont get me wrong) - your sushi station equipped with 5 chefs.they were NOWHERE THAT BUSY AT ALL.

My final verdict. Bad service, Bad Attitude, NOT WORTH PAYING. My birthday dinner just pathetic.

Sadly we had appaling service at this place. We waited 25 min for four beers to arrive. They kept swopping our waiters. Eventually, a waiter took the food order for three of us and just ignored the fourth person. We had to call him back to take the order! The food delivery was so slow and one person didn't even get their meal. As for the food, it was very mediocre, very small portions and rediculously expensive. So give this place a miss.

Amazing food, great service and stunning decor - a great experience. Unlike a lot of upmarket restaurants, this one is well worth every cent you spend. Best Seared Salmon I’ve ever had. Highly recommended!

I guess - some tastes are acquired. I have dined at a number of Japanese restaurants but this one really disappointed me and my best friend. Something was missing. Enjoyed the dim sums and chicken wings. The black rice and prawn dish and the rice noodle with mushroom dish were not nice as well as the 3 little fishes with a yellow egg filling were also not tasty. As for the pork ribs - No. They were "just ribs". The waiter was great. He really did his beat. Regards.

So i went to KõL after watching a film at Nu metro. I have'nt been to Hyde Park in a while, so the first thing that caught my eye, is their setup. Very classy and unique.

We weren't initially looking to eat but we wanted some cocktail, and cocktails we got.

The bar setup looks like a film set. The batenders knew their stuff and were quite friendly.

The japanese influence is obvious and the drinks had character.

Next time i want the full dining experience

Food was sub par for the price range. The server brought the courses out in such quick succession that it felt as if we were being rushed out.

Very good dining experience. Service was great, and the food was authentically Japanese with some fine dining twists.
