Restaurant La Pentola reviews
35I have always thought very highly of La Pentola - where one pays for trained staff, speciality dishes and a wonderful service.the opposite happened yesterday.we waited more than 30min for our cocktails. Our waitress had to "go check" twice about her specials. The cherry calamari was sweeter than plain jam. Drenched in syruppy cherry sauce - overwhelmingly sweetness was the only thing you could taste.we told the waitress we would decide whether we wanted a main or not. Eventually we decided to have a main and dessert respectively. She asked us "but you said you were only having an appetizer" and stared at us for 10 seconds. Then she didn't even place the order. The beef ravioli was something to laugh about. One could not taste the actual beef as it the whole plate was just pasta pockets with tomoto mince on. It was definitely not nearly R200 worth as it tasted like it came from a box. The lindt mint for close to R100 was just a slice of frozen mouse, did not taste home made.shocking.
Attended a Whiskey tasting event that used whiskey in all the food. Everything was very delicious and cooked to perfection
Wonderful restaurant! The plates are incredible the staff is so friendly and it was delicious. Warning you will never get out of there hungry the plates are not small
Great atmosphere and the staff were friendly. We had a set menu and the starters were really good, main meal was okay but not a fan of the dessert.
It was an absolute delight to eat at this restaurant.
The restaurant was essentially booked for guests to have a meal after my friend's passing.
I have rarely seen such an impeccable service.
Every 10 - 15 minutes a waiter would come up to make sure everything was alright, when, when it comes to a lot of other restaurants, one has to wait for a very long time before talking to their assigned waiter.
Everybody was friendly, kind and patient and the venue was clean and tidy.
The food was delicious, we had a salad first, then as the main course we had potatoes, exquisite meat cooked in a sauce I am not sure I know, with steamed green beans and carrots, and we had ice cream as a dessert.
We were attended to with so much care.
It was a great experience, I will definitely go back.
Still a great place for a great meal! I last visited this restaurant almost 20 years ago with my parents! My dad had passed on since, but I'm sure he would still love it as much as he used to.
I absolutely recommend the place, the service is excellent and the suggestions about the menu are the best. The Crocodile Tango starter, I believe was an amazing experience.
We celebrated our 3rd anniversary there and it was really nice! The food was perfect. The ambience made the evening special. Haven't been there before, but we'd definitely will be going there more often!
PS. I loved the tiling on the walls!
It was a wedding and it was brilliantly planned and service was superb. Really had a fantastic, fabulous time.
Just discovered this joint. Omg I loved everything about it. The food was amazing, waitresses were welcoming n very helpful. Will definitely come back
Wonderful Sunday meal pairing, hosted by chef Shaun, along with family. Comfortable environment with top class cuisine. Definitely worth the visit and assured of many memorable returns.
Great hospitality.
Beautiful.
I found the staff to be friendly, helpful and informative. The environment is nice and cosy and I love that social distancing between tables was taken into consideration.
Something I haven’t seen in restaurant’s are small bottles of sanitiser placed on the tables which La Pentola has done, so super thumbs up on that point.
I found the cocktails to be potent but I can’t say they were a show stopper in terms of taste.
We had the wine pairing evening, the dessert and shrimp gooseberry salad which blew my taste buds into another galaxy!
The steak was more well done than medium to rare (was made to Chef Shane’s preference) and being a rare steak lover that was quite disappointing.
The risotto was underdone, I couldn’t eat it. I understand it should be somewhat al dente but I swear that was very much close to raw and I found it to be very unpleasant.
Overall, it was a lovely evening thanks to the dishes that blew my mind, the atmosphere that was warm and inviting and the company that made it wonderful.
We had a beer pairing evening! Lovely Union beer with glorious food- typical of Shane! Low lighting and candles.the restaurant was packed! Like always, Shane makes an appearance to personally talk to everyone. A great chef!
Food is very expensive. Don't mind paying if it is actually worth the money but in mu opinion it's not
It has been a while since we have been here. Chef Shane as usual knows his stuff.
We had a lovely relaxing evening celebrating a special family occasion.
The food was very tasty and well presented.
There are various pre selectable meal options available and they all compliment each other very well.
You can choose between a starter and main course combo or main course and desert option. Both options are very filling. But.if you prefer bigger meals, nothing stops you from adding either a starter or desert to you combo choice.
It is really worthwhile keeping an eye open for their special evenings and special events.
Brilliant service. My mussel starter was superb, however, was a little disappointed with my pasta dish. Had better els where. Wife's chicken dish was brilliant. Will definitely go again.
A bit stuck. La Pentola staff are attentive and do a good job catering to diverse diners including vegans. The kitchen has some inventive approaches including the use of wine and spirits in the ingredients. Yet the menu doesn't seem to evolve and the results on the plate can be uninspiring and conservative. Aztec mushrooms were overpowered by chocolate; beetroot prosciutto were too thick and dry with rancid nuts; a dahl in filo dish was a pie with two veg on the side.
The ambiance was truly awful when we last visited in January 2021: butcher's paper over the tablecloths and a soundtrack of mediocre pop at high volume. It seems to operate more for the convenience of staff than patrons right now.
Great exprience. Food was awsume and service was the best ever. Duck was tender and perfectly prepared
The service tops it all.great, great, great service from the staff and the wonderful chef who makes sure to leave his kitchen for a few minutes to come welcome, engage and advise his guests about the delicious food they serve. Lovely place to take your family, friends, acquaintances and colleagues to. Exceptional view and peaceful music as you enjoy your meal and your company.
