Liquor City Jan Smuts reviews
18Huge selection, reasonable pricing, long trading hours and easily accessible with its own parking lot… no fault to find here!
Fabulous selection of wines and good prices. Manager very helpful.
Had a couple of good tastings in store too
Brilliant liquor store, had to quickly run in to grab a bottle of wine for the dinner table and was overwhelmed by the massive selection, good service. Will go back to browse browse through properly.
The supplier has a wide selection of wines and spirits. Their pricing for resellers is not as competitive as I would expect it to be. Their deliveries are quick and hassle free
Amazing service but there is a whole lot of new items you know what your clients want and be knowledgeable
They have the widest range of wines and the staff are very knowledgeable and give great service. If you buy six bottles you get a discount.
Got great help and service here on several occasions before. But today was another story! I needed 6 cases of a particular wine. Kenneth was adamant there were no boxes for this, yet there were other boxes on the shelves. Andrew, however, made a plan to find 6 boxes and was very helpful. The price was R58 more per case than the previous store I went to, but the manager refused to give a discount. I won't shop there again!
They have the widest assortment of liquor that I know of in Jhb. And the only place I know on GP that stocks my favourite gin - Oura.
Well worth the slight detour if it's not on your route. A big selection, no a huge selection. I bought craft beers from the mainstream - Darling, Devil's Peak, CBC, Tall Horse are all availble in all the varieties.
They also have plenty of lesser known ones but perhaps if you want something specialised look at one of the craft beer libraries. That's not my thing, but there are a number of craft specialty shops around if you want. The only beet I haven't seen for a while at Liquor City was Dreyers Brewry. That's a great pity as they make excellent unpreserved fresh brews.
Onto the spirits, I bought a mid price brandy mainly for cooking, but theres a huge variety of excellent brandies, plus cognacs upward of hundreds or even a thousands of rands. Whiskeys also plenty of choice and good prices; again if you want the next level there are specialty shops in Johannesburg, but Liquor City has a decent selection.
For wine drinkers there are rows and isles with variety but I can't comment a I don't drink wine.
Customer service could be slightly better hence only 4 stars but ultimately this is one of the best shops in Johannesburg if you want variety, speciality, or need a real kirsch for your Black Forest cake.
I live overseas and had to find some wine to take home in a hurry. I phoned the store and spoke to a man who clearly knows and loves his business. Outstanding selection of wines and tremedously helpful staff. I found exactly what I needed and I would recommend this store to anyone.
Well stocked, with friendly staff. They have a huge selection of wines. Prices are very reasonable.
Probably the largest wine selection I've ever seen. Minus one star for its poor selection of dooswyn (papsak or boxed wine for the uninitiated). Huge liquor store with tonnes of parking. Really my favourite store of my favourite liquor franchise.
I had arrived on a gloomy, rainy day.
First off, a section of the warehouse style store was flooded, enough so that walking there got my shoes soaked.
Secondly, there is a clear deficit of stock of very common items. I'm not sure why.
Lastly, the prices don't quite make sense. They're somewhat more expensive than other competitors in the area, and on the scale this place operates, I'm not sure why.
That being said, they have a cool cigar humidor, and are pretty knowledgeable about what products they have.
One of my favorite liquor stores ever. With a massive variety of hard liquor and one of the biggest collections of wine I have ever seen. Well run by management who are always friendly and attentive.
Biggest liquor store that I've ever been to in Johannesburg. They have an extensive collection of drinks. It'd be surprising if you don't find what you are looking for.
Excellent, large selection of wines, spirits, liqueurs and beers. Very good pricing. 10% off all wine prices, but curiously, not sparkling wine!: - (
Plenty of free parking. Helpful, but not necessarily knowledgeable staff.
Only annoyance is that so much stuff is not labelled with the price or the price label is not on the shelf.
Huge store, friendly staff-have variety and all the latest things you can think of. Managers there know their stuff and are willing to make concessions if you buy in bulk enough. Competitively priced and always have some sort of special running. Generally have lots of stock which is good when there is a month end rush. Convenience and Linita of parking make it a winner.
