Mama Putt Restaurant, Sunninghill reviews
27Beware using your bank card at this restaurant, they sometimes double charge your card and would not refund, even when there was evidence and a call from the bank, once the money hit their account.
There are various Nigerian dishes, very well prepared and gives you a true taste of authentic homemade meals BUT the service could be better, friendly waiters with good manners could add to the overall dinning experience.
Poor service! I got here trying to buy dinner and asked the lady what was available and she couldn’t even explain. I tried to make it simpler for her by telling her I wanted something I could have with swallow to assist her in being precise and she just gave me a attitude, maybe they aren’t open to South Africans, well atleast that’s what I perceive through her service.
The cry out for better service in previous reviews really should be heard by leadership.
The service is POOR.
As a server, you are not doing anyone a favour but yourself. You are at work! Stop making it like you serving people who make sure you have a job is a favour.
The pricing system was ridiculous. You don't know the prices of the individual items. You choose what you want after eating a ridiculous bill awaits you, and the staff can't explain to you why the food was so pricey. I would recommend just going for their buffet which is a fixed amount. That way it doesn't matter whatever you eat
Best Nigerian restaurant with the most scrumptious of quality in Gauteng, South Africa. You must definitely try their meals. I have lived in Gauteng for the past 17 years and have never had it better than Mama Putt. Thank you for your Nigerian variety.
The food was nice, the meat portions are ridiculously small. Ordered Jollof that came with really 2 small pieces of beef, not even enough for one person. If you dont know Nigerian food very well, the staff are not helpful in explaining the dishes or what's in the dishes. If you are big on customer service then this place is not for you, I paid for the bill while the waitress kept popping peanuts in her mouth the whole time while holding the speed point. Staff also looked really bored and not engaging with customers. You get charged a service fee (about 10%) apparently for dishing up the food and the staff still want you to tip them again.
Went to this place (Mama Putt in Sunninghill) and had the worst food ever. The stew was burnt (as black as coal) and when I told the manager, he gave me an attitude. I tried eating but could not handle it. How do you eat such nasty food and leave with a smile? A proper running business would never do this to its customer. Wish the owner was there to hear me out because a “so called manager” would never treat your business as good as you would. Advice: Do not get that stew. Trust me, you will regret it.
I went for buffet but the food finish earlier i just didn't like the way i spend my money for nothing and i ate what i do not wana eat
Yesterday, we decided to have our lunch there. As always the food was amazing. I won’t give them 5 stars because of their service. There were about 6 staff on the front-end, with only one other customer besides us. So, not a busy day!
But their service was very slow. And they refused to smile, despite us jokingly asking if they could light up the mood a little. We sat on filthy tables outside. I had to go in to ask for a cloth to clean. No one offered to come and clean. No one came to check if we were enjoying the meal, and when we got done, no one came to clear the table.
This photo is of our table about 15min after we had finished eating. We were there around 13: 20hrs September 8 2022. In case management wants to follow up with staff.
The place is clean, nice set up but service lol. Ordered egusi the lady said it's finished, I opted for okra with assorted meat but requested they should not serve me cow skin as I don't eat it, a few minutes later she comes back equsi is available if am interested. I agree, the meal comes and the moment I start eating I discover its a pack of cow skin, it's not bad but I don't eat it. That's how my eating ended. Shame I just paid for the meal and left. But the place is good.
I have to agree with what others are saying too expensive for nothing especially stew with 2 pieces of meat that's just ridiculous for R125 and lastly the waiter force you to tip ofwhich it's not a good way to ask for tip the guy delayed with my change thinking I will say keep the change ofwhich I was gonna tip him but he came with short money saying the money was short I just have to say keep it it's fine because I could see he didn't wanna give it back
Amazing food, do yourself a favour and visit this place as it is one of best African cuisine in town, satisfaction almost guaranteed.
Went to this place for lunch after I saw its posts on Instagram and hyping my Nigerian partner about it for weeks and we were excited. We went here to check it out as a possibly venue to host her birthday party. What a disappointing experience
Yes the restaurant is really nicely set up hence the first star. We firstly asked for the menu. We were told they are busy revamping their menu so there is no menu we should go to the counter and order what we want.
After being shown different soups my partner settled for the Egusi and I settle for the Fried rice, plantain, chicken and salad.
There was already another couple sitted when we arrived. We then ordered our drinks (A bottle of Red wine which they didn't have but offered us an Alternate Durbanville bottle) of which we waited for over 30 minutes for this to come. And the bottle that comes is not what we ordered I protest to this and I'm told that all they have My partner said I should just have the wine and not be a complainer
5 minutes later and our food arrives. It looked good and we couldn't wait to tuck in. Unfortunately the Egusi was sandy and not great cuts of meat given (1 tripe, 1 beef bone and a piece of fat)
No issues with the Fried rice meal hence the second star.
Our bill arrives to pay and we are sitting at R600. How will one ever justify eating to Rice dish for R190.
What an overpriced establishment!
Guys, come on now. I paid so much money just for me to not even eat the food, idk which cook you guys had today but they disappointed. Nigerian food is one of the tastiest cuisines out there but I did not feel the soul or the flavoring at all. I’m sad the lady that served me was nice, she must find a better place to work
Ridiculously expensive, wrap of pap costs 70 Rand without the soup. Been there twice but never again. Each time, a parting with 700 Rand for 3 or so meals. Nandos way cheaper.
I'm completely disappointed in the mess I witnessed at the restaurant today. It was my first time and I had always wanted to check this place out, when I got there there was no one to help so I went to the food counter at the back. When I told the lady with straight back and beads on it that I would like to sit down she said I must order my food first then sit down. Okay. I ordered then I was told the Turkey was still being fried so I said I'd wait since I wanted to sit down. As I sat I noticed how the stuff is all over the place at the back, rushing and the 2 waiters servicing the restaurant seemed to only care for the 2 tables that were already seated. It was very chaotic and confusing. I stood back up to go ask for cool drink from the fridge to drink in the meantime. After waiting and telling the lady I ordered from that I wanted to sit down - numerous times - my food eventually got served in a takeaway carton. Confused, I asked them if I'm supposed to eat from that sitting down and one of the other ladies, also in straight back but a longer length - queried with her colleague and apologised. I was so put off by the whole ordeal I declined them plating my food, I just paid and left. What a complete waste of time, money and energy coming here. I was so hungry and looking forward to experiencing supper here after seeing and hearing about this place. Maybe I don't understand how the restaurant works, are customers supposee to all go to the back and constantly get up to order everything they need for them to be served? I'm very dumbfounded by the lack of hospitality in this restaurant, it's frustrating to say the least. What a sad turn of events. I definitely won't be coming back nor recommending this place to anyone.
The service was poor, they have a party and forgot about the other paying customers. Had to waiting for long time for my drinks. Honestly not happy with the service
Great tasting Nigerian food with good portions and so much to select from. Customer service is also top notch!
We'll I've not been to your restaurant but I Oder everyday like everyday, but you see the fried rice I ordered just now? Total nonsense, no pepper, green pepper like they use machete to cut it, is very far from being sweet, if I had a chance I'd Oder for better food, I'm not happy
