Olives and Plates

I have never met more unpleasant staff. I have been to their counter every day for a week and the staff is painful to deal with. Given this is a hospital and everyone is dealing with difficult news, the last thing anyone wants to see are sullen faces behind the counter to which you are paying exorbitant prices. Two days ago I watched the supervisor shuffle casserole dishes at the hot food counter for almost 10min while an elderly couple patiently waited to be served. Such disrespect! Olive and Plates management please intervene.

I had the pleasure of visiting for breakfast on Sunday morning. This is definitely one of the best restaurants to visit in Johannesburg.
The seating outside in the garden is really great as it gives a sense of being out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
The food never disappoints.the portion sizes are really good and the quality is always consistent of the highest standard.it is advisable to make a booking as there is always a waiting list.

What a hidden gem! The food was exceptional, and portions are very generous. The venue has a lovely relaxed vibe. The staff were extremely helpful, patient, and entertained our strange requests.

The service was HORRIBLE. The first waiter that served us firstly, when we entered the restaurant he stood from a far and shouted "Come here! " before directing us to our table. Secondly, he throw the straws at us when bringing our drinks. And lastly when he brought the wrong drink to one of us he failed to apologize and acknowledge his error and when I called him out instead he opted to just get us another waitress. The second waitress already came to us with an attitude to the extent that she failed to thank us for coming when we were leaving, and this is bare minimum expectation from service providers.
It was a really bad first time experience and I will not be visiting again.

I would not have expected to find an Olives and Plates at Wits, but it was still absolutely amazing. They had their standard table of desserts and an amazing outdoor area to sit and eat. It was relatively quiet for a weekend but I can see how it could get really busy on the weekdays. We ordered a myriad of dishes including the Turkish eggs which were super cute. I would definitely come back and try some other items off the menu because I know everything would be super tasty.

Delicious food in a great setting. Feels like you could be in the cape somewhere. The venue is also available for functions and small conferences - well worth a try.

I love the setting. I ordered a fillet which unfortunately had to go back twice. Third time was perfect! The food is delicious and the presentation is absolutely magnificent! We only had 1 waiter for a table of 24 people, so he was in over his head!

Great service, beautiful place and impeccable food.
One thing though.finding the place was a mission for us.
Suggestion: Use the *EMPIRE GATE* instead of the other university entrances.

Honestly, I was quite disappointed in the service here. Our waitress - I won't mention her name- was not at attentive enough at all and considering the place was not even that busy when we arrived, there was no excuse for it. She also took ages to bring me a simple cappuccino, nor did it have almond milk, which is what I requested. Literally had to ask several times for it, including a simple glass of tap water. I truly expected more from this place.

Best food you will find. Great service.
I really enjoyed my food and the health smoothies are to die for.

As an ex Witsie, this is a wonderful way to chill with friends or bring kids for lunch in my old school. The Cape Dutch feel is like a small escape from the city.

I can only give praises to the attentive waitress (Audrey) and manager (Joseph).
I highly recommend to celebrate any special ocassion here. The food is delicious and well presented. We even received complementary desert for our wedding anniversary.

I’ve never had a bad dish on the menu. My favourite meal is the Parmesan panko chicken fillets. Excellent venue and lovely to sit outside on a nice sunny day. We’ve also had functions there and it’s a stunning location with great food, drinks and vibes.

Food was good although the service was terrible. Waited 4 over an half an hour for our food. Waiters were not very attentative

A large and great outdoor space for dining, very safe too as it's on the university campus. The indoor space is stunning, classic, and also spacious. Both indoor and outdoor dining spaces cater very comfortably for people who worry about covid. Always loved the food out the kitchen here since my own varsity days, and if you are a cake addict, the cake table will have you circling around it and coming back for more! (I would only say if you order pasta, order the spaghetti type because the plates don't hold the pene type as nicely and as quantiful). Overall, I have always loved Olives and Plates!

What beautiful ambiance. The food is also amazing. Delicious and good portions. They have lovely selection of cakes too.

Midweek morning's are my personal favorite - not too busy, you get lost in the music and good food. Really blissful,

Honestly this has to be on the top of my list. I loved this place.it's so magical, felt like heaven, also LOVE the food.

It's a very nice, relaxing place. I was there on a writing retreat with my school and I must say it was the best place. Tranquil and accommodative.
