Parea Taverna reviews
37Authentic greek restaurant. Nico is such a legend and really has a passion for his food and that is seen. Very well hidden gem of Johannesburg and I recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic greek odyssey of food and ambiance- awesome!
I've eaten about 70% of the menu here. They offer authentic Greek/Mediterranean cuisine made with high quality ingredients. Must have the lamb chops, they are thick and juicy. You will not find better. The brinjal special and sardines are great anchors to your tapas selection. The grilled haloumi is real cheese not salted rubber - try it if you hate haloumi.
Much as I understand the difficulties during COVID, I was disappointed this time. My grilled chicken was so dry and tasteless I had to ask for mayonnaise to make it palatable. My dining companions also had the chicken, but theirs was ok.
My second time, I really had a great time! It was my birthday today? , had good service with a great ambience!? Would have preferred my beer to be cold.
The place has the Uber Eats option and it's a better option on Fridays to weekends as it is usually very busy and packed.
Sweet Greek-styled restaurant. Lovely ambience, delicious food and quiet for a romantic and pleasant night out.
Mr Nick Nikitas sat at our table after a delicious meal and explained to us how he opened PAREA 31 years ago after working 2 jobs to make ends meet and make it happen what a legend the food reflects the passion of true Greek gentleman and a hero in my book you do not want to miss this unique and delicious Greek experience.
Amazing he was just telling us how he went from village to village collecting recipes from the old Ladies.
Authentic setting and old world charm, what a lovely restaurant. The porch is definitely the place to be seated! Food was amazing and service also very good.
We had an absolutely fabulous experience! Niko, the owner blessed us with a mix and match of delicious plates - pitas with different dips, baked bringals, calamari, Greek salad, GORGEOUS lamb chops and a whole fish! Thembi was our waitress and she was wonderful. We will definitely be back!
Some of the best Greek care food in Joburg. The flavours are on point and all dishes were cooked to perfection. The last time I had Kleftiko here it literally fell off the bone. Its so tender you can use a spoon. Simply delicious food.
A charming and well run Greek restaurant. Ample choices, good presentation and a delightful owner who cares for his customers.
I am so happy that this place is still opened. The fish there is amazing. I will be visiting it very soon.
Absoluut great Vibe People Staff Recommend …. Well done Nicko!
Worth your time PS- need to book table ️
We went for dinner last night. The dip platter was very nice but some of the mains were just average. The mussels were super salty. The waiter got a couple of the orders wrong, my sister wanted fried calamari but received grilled calamari. The waitress gave a lot of attitude and was quite rude, so we just left it as is. The service was also VERY slow.
Really dissapointing.
Below average Greek Food.
The calamari with onions was a terrible choice and the Lamb stew was even worse. Two stars as the hummus and baklava was the only thing that was Greek.
Always wonderful. Good service and delicious food. Mainly the grilled octopus, and the whole fish. Relaxed ambience, with no pretentious vibe. You just rock up
Between the owner, kitchen staff & waitresses - no one knows what they doing. Not a good first experience.
I try not to go at peak times therefore get hot food do not wait long to be served. I really enjoy the mezes, but my favourite is their Pita fresh and delicious. I really like the chicken Yiro best in Johannesburg. My partner enjoys their chicken soup. What makes this restaurant special is that the owner is on site and watches everything carefully and ensures that his food is bought from good suppliers and he makes a lot of his food fresh each day. His manager is a very nice man and extremely helpful. You wont go wrong and it is socially distanced and safe.
Authentic Greek food Great vegetarian menu (I'm a meat eater) Large portions I suggested starting with two tapas fir the table and keep ordering until you are full
One of my favorite restaurants. The food is glorious. Although I didn't eat much the Greek menu is extensive with Mese platters and main courses that are excellent. The service is good and quick to serve the food. Staff were pleasantly good and had a great lunch. Actually birthday lunch paid for by my daughters. Recommended Baklava for desert.
