Safari Outdoor - Johannesburg reviews
42 Whatever you do just don't by anything from their website, and do not expect a refund if your order cannot be filled in a reasonable time (2 weeks).
I've now been trying for almost 4 weeks to get a refund.
The safari outdoor group lost a loyal client.
SAFARI OUTDOOR: Bad business practice.
I purchased a Konus 20-60x80 Spotting Scope as a gift. The purchase was made on 26/07/2022.
After their website saying that the item was in stock at their Boksburg branch, i went to the store to be told that in fact they did not have stock but that there was one left at the Rivonia branch.
I made my way to the Rivonia branch were there was one left which was clearly the display unit as it was obvious it had been handled a fair bit however seemed ok.
I then came to find out that the person I had bought it for had already acquired a scope and no longer needed one.
I returned to the store on 09/08/2022 and explained that the item had'nt been used and was prepared to accept store credit as I was a regular customer.
The return was flatly refused and told that exchanges may only take place within 5 days of purchase and the sales person pointed to the slip trying to indicate were it said this on the slip.
I quote verbatim what the slip says, "RETURNS POLICY: All products are subject to the manufacturers warranties. All sales are final. Due to the sensative nature thereof, no returns or exchange will be accepted on powder, Primers and Ammunition. Size exchanges will be allowed for 5 days after purchase. "
No where, does it state no items will be returned after 5 days.
I have always held a hi regard for Safari Outdoor as a premium outdoor store and as mentioned above have been a regular customer for years.
This has changed my view on Safari Outdoor and should Safari Outdoor not reconsider the exchange, I will not longer purchase nor recommend any else to do so either.
Far less premium retailers in South Africa would have gladly accepted the return.
I truly believed Safari Outdoor was better than this.

Nuff Said about SFO.
If you buy something from them and they say you can return it- be vary, they will try and wiggle out of it. Although they reassured me that if the hats I bought didn't fit I could return it. When I came to return it they said the return of one hat would be credited to an account and after some arguing they agreed to put it back on my card.
I bought a rouge hat for my son which was never used and exactly how it was when bought, the store manager claimed it was damaged and refused to refund it.
Customer guarantees not guaranteed.
I purchasing some cleaning rods at another SO, and was assured by the staff that I could return them. When I tried to return to items, still packaged and unused to the Rivonia store, I was told by the surly store manager that there was no return, only store credit. I have spent a fortune here but have promised myself that I will get my retail therapy elsewhere from now on.
Watch out for the return/exchange policy, what is said at time of buying and what is done when an exchange needs to happen is two very different things. Bought the wrong jags to fit the cleaning rod for. 222, at the time the salesman said I could come and exchange them if they where incorrect, on returning them in their sealed containers I was then informed that they don't exchange and now needed to buy the adapter. So for R59 (bought the adapapter) I won't be shopping at safari outdoor anymore.
Went to buy a carving knife wusthof or similar. Unfortunately, they do not carry any such range.
I visited the store to purchase a handgun. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Their price on the gun I wanted was high and they did not have the model and I ended up buying from another supplier for much cheaper. They also mainly carried the latest models of some guns. I will check with them again because they may be better priced next time I need a gun. It’s just the market at the time I suppose.
It was alright. We didn’t find the tents we were looking for because they had such a limited range. But the service is generally really good.
Great shop and we'll stocked but if they don't have anything that's the end. Used to have some guys that would make a plan and order things for you and you could pay in line and collect but that seems to have fallen away or they are just to busy. Some sectors though like optics and the gunsmith are still fantastic but the actual firearms and ammo seem to be losing interest in the customer.
The staff is friendly and even when store is full. They take their time to explain everything to a customer. I will visit this shop again to do my shopping.
Found that this little mall off the Fourways ramp is very popular and has a very beautiful Spar grocery store
Massive place, reasonable prices and it's a hidden jem. I didn't even know there was a range near me.
Friendly staff and a lot of stock
It's the place to shop at for all your Hunting and outdoor needs
Great shop design, nice to practice wild boar shooting on the big screen (if it works), seems to have a little less stock than Pretoria branch.
Incredible shop. So much to offer and experience. If you like outdoors this shop is a must visit.
One of the best gunshops around. Massive range of products, great pricing and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely recommend. Also, bring the entire family, there are excellent options for everyone.
A huge thank you to Pieter Louw for his outstanding service. From the moment I walked in, to advice about my intended purchase, to my leaving: the service was amazing. This is a business well worth supporting. Well done, chaps.
Well worth a visit good verity of out door and camping equipment, lots of fishing stuff and if you like guns you won't be disappointed. All the staff are very friendly and helpful
A great outdoor store, with the most friendly helpful staff offering excellent customer service and great advice. We have joined the SOSC and had our first shoot over the weekend. Very professional service and safe environment for you to shoot in a structured and organized setting.
