The Raj

Unfortunately, Raj is not at the same level as the other restaurants at the Nelson Mandela Square. We had the lamb roganjosh, palak paneer, saffron pilau and garlic naan and the only good dish was the naan. The pilau was cold, the lamb dry and the curries weren't rich and flavorful enough, very bland. To be fair, the onion pakora was a good appetizer. Service was rushed and on their own schedule. Their priorities were not the client. After we ordered dessert they cleaned the whole restaurant, including floors and other tables before even clearing out our plates. When the bill arrived, they charged me for a different whiskey than the one I had ordered and consumed. Tang, Big Mouth, Trump and Cilantro's are better options in terms of food and service.

I don't know why we always walked past this restaurant but today we decided to try it, well what a surprise!

If it was tasty, then price would be 100% justifiable. But unfortunately, flavor was mediocre at best.

Choosing to eat at Raj without on the square without a recommendation was a fine choice! We ate chicken tikka masala and lamb roganjosh. We would come again, and you should come too. Service was excellent from everyone and personal attention from Manager Jeff was over the top. Picture from the end of our meal tells it all - we did not want to leave anything behind!

Great service, great food in a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended. The manager Jeff is doing a superb job.

Absolutely appalled by the bunny I just received from the raj Nelson Mandela Square. Firstly we went to sit down to eat and we were told we can only order a bunny for takeout, cool. I ordered one after eating and it came in a flat styrofoam box which is very strange. My bunny is squash and half the curry is out of the bunny, making it completely soggy. This is unacceptable and not the standard that I’m used to at The Raj

Worst service because they prefer only specific PPL, we got the seat and waited 15 mins to order, no one came and unfortunately we left without eating

It was good. Though it is not so close to Indian recipes, they managed to make it. Iam a vegetarian, I like their Garlic Naan, Paneer curry and vegetable curry. Usually a bit wait will be there due to lot of customers

I am really annoyed with this Service, Firstly i phoned and ordered for collect and had to wait an addition 20 mins after you said it will be 20 mins, The rice is in one container for TWO seperate meals and when i phone you telling me that i should have told you that before? SINCE WHEN do i have to specify TWO seperate MEAL ORDERS NEEED TO BE IN SEPERATE CONTAINERS!
I want my money back TODAY for the two rottis that i paid for and didnt get!

For a restaurant that charges 38 rands for a small bowl of plain basmati rice (it's usually a free accompaniment with curries at Indian restaurants), the staff should atleast be trained on some basics of customer service. Very rude staff! Our waiter was Becky (I think).

Worst decision to choose this restaurant. They don't know how to serve, waited long for basic dishes. Very limited menu, limited quantity. Everything was limited except the bill. New management is not maintaining it properly. Only nice part is the location.

I love Indian food and this was a great choice. The Punjab Samoosas were a great starter. The Prawn Korma accompanied by the Veg Biryani and Garlic Naan was scrumptious. Our waiter Bongani was awesome

Raj is fine Indian restaurant in the Sandton City (Mandela Square). They have a wide variety of menu items available in both veg n non veg. The food quality is really good. The non veg items are halal. The staff is really good n polite. Do check them out

Shocking service, bad management, tasteless food. Totally disappointing experience. Ordered starters, which came cold, and then waited an hour for mains. After seeing other patrons who came in after us getting their food, we asked for the bill and left. Manager ignored us. He knew that we were tired of waiting and cancelled the mains yet did not come to our table. He walked away from us as we were leaving the restaurant. I followed him and expressed how dissatisfied we were. He became defensive and said that the restaurant was too busy. He apologized. Even though we asked the waiter to check on our mains, not once did the manager even bother to come to our table but he (the manager) asked me why we did not approach him to check on the mains? Never ever again. Left the restaurant hungry and shocked that we would receive such bad service in the prestigious Mandela Square.

This is such an amazing place! I'm a vegan and they gladly assisted my needs and prepared the most delicious food ever! Truly recommend this place!

Ordered butter chicken on the the evening of 19th November 2021. Take away.

Chicken was not cooked, yes we asked for hot. This hot was not a spicy hot using proper butter chicken spices. It was more like they emptied a bottle of hot sauce.

Wasted the food as it was unbearable to eat, even for the person that can handle very hot spicy food.
