Restaurant @ThePlace2B reviews
34Something different in a place you would never expect, the food was great and the service even more so. The venue, however, was not the most enjoyable in terms of the environment and it being a museum, but each to their own and if you want some (and to be immersed in) predominantly trout fishing history while dining then this is the place for you.
This is a beautiful country hang out - off busy life and unplug. They have a wide variety of beer and gin. It has a potential especially of improving the kids play area. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the view and their pricing is economical! Thank you Gift, our patron, for looking after us. Will call again soon.
Awesome venue, really nice food. Service could be a little better, but perhaps it is as a result of not enough staff
Arrived on a very nasty badly kept dirt path. Had to park the car in the baking hot sun, with not a tree in site. Once seated rock and roll music was turned on full blast, whilst a busker was doing his thing, a few meters away. What a shamble. I ordered a blond pilsner beer, but was served with a red ale. It took about 15 minutes to explain that I was served with the wrong beer.
The squid heads dry and tasteless. The meat was tough. The dessert was also wrong as it showed a white ice cream, but mine was pink.
Will I go again?
I think not.
We decided to go out for Christmas Lunch this year just to try something different. The place2 be was highly recommended by many people on ILF facebook group. The food was okay, but there was no option for my daughter who only eats chicken, as were were paying R400 per head plus drinks the lack of consideration wasn't appreciated. The service was pathetic, they just didnt have enough people to serve the numbers books. Drinks and food took forever. They also charged us for the starters which were included in the set menu! Not a great experience wont be going back anytime soon!
Very disorganized! Website says it's Open, drove out (it was a public holiday though), but was closed.
Today we called ahead, as to which the response was that they're Open. To our utter disbelief found it closed again! Far drive, twice, for nothing, how disappointing! Certainly not how a restaurant should be run!
Definitely won't make that mistake again.
Quiet, hard to get to, but really worth it. Added extra bonus was a full line up of Agars draught beer (my favourite brewery in Gauteng).
We visited @ThePlace2B on Saturday on our way home. What a lovely restaurant! We received a warm and friendly welcome and even though they were experiencing loadshedding, we didn't wait long for our food, it was absolutely delicious. Wonderful vibe and the service we received was fantastic. Thank you! Wish we lived closer but will definitely visit again when we are in the area!
Hidden gem of a resturant. Great space for kids with petting zoo and lots of space to play. Food and drinks quality was exceptional and very reasonably priced. Rare to find good quality food these days
The restaurant interior is themed around fly fishing and has a Country feel to it. Service from staff was excellent as well
Note that there is 1km of dirt road to get to the restaurant, but well worth it
We will be back for sure!
Tourist trap, avoid this place
The Facebook book photos, are amazing, yet very disappointing once your there, very far from a fine dining experience, totally overpriced, small portions, warm beer, cold food, the menu looks amazing, fun tasting, paired food, however if you don't read the fine print, a gourmet burger R150+ gets R40 added to the extras that you thought came with it. We waited forever for cold food, tasty, although there were 2 tables in the Resturant, so how they handle a conference amazes me, the pictures on Facebook do it justice, however you will be completely disappointed on arrival, the staff however are really friend and accommodating, too bad they will never experience returning customers.
Really avoid this place. There is a 3 star motel further down this road, warm food, cold beer, and normally priced. Go there,
Cheers H
Great hidden away gem. Food is simple but tasty and well made. A very chilled ambience which is perfect away from the chaos of JHB. Will be bAck
Well worth the visit! The food was incredible, staff was friendly and the atmosphere was peaceful! Would highly recommend!
Initially I was a bit unsure after reading some peoples reviews about the food but the food was divine- every single one of our meals that we had was tasty, looked amazing and was thoroughly enjoyed! The farmyard area with the animals was also a great distraction for the little kids - we will definately be back
Great day out with friends. Thanks to our amazing waiter Keeran, You were fantastic. Maybe need to pass on your experience to some of the other waiters, just saying. Thanks Mandy for your hospitality. Will be back soon.
Amazing spot in the Countryside. Wide open space for kids to run free. Great food and amazing beer on tap. My highlight is the Goat, as you drive in. So majestic on his thrown Definitely recommend this, as an out of town escape.
This is a great place for a Sunday lunch. The food was divine and there was a great atmosphere to the place. There was even some good live music. The road to get there is a bit bumpy and it could use a few extra signs for new visitors to follow but it is definitely worth looking for. I highly recommend this spot.
Not the place you want to be. Use to be great but clearly a change of management. Only person that seems to do any work is the scottish or Irish lady. The rest of the staff seem to be always busy on there phones and dont worry about the customers. The waiter then asks for a cash tip as apprently the owner takes the tips to pay wages. Wont be back.
The website pictures are great but the reality of the place is far from it. Food was substandard and dry and clearly not cooked by a professional or with any love. Service was also sub-par. And they served us watered down liquor.
The place 2 be when you want a chill afternoon and a good beer but certainly not when you are expecting a nice lunch after having booked a set menu looking decent for a not really cheap amount.
Asparagus sauteed in butter: I got cold tinned asparagus!
Fish served with orzo pasta: fish served on a cold pasta salad looking like prepacked salad, but who in the right mind serves a nice piece of fish (yes it was actually nice) on top of a cold salad.
Way over priced wine for what it is.
Desert: well, as we were not force to have it we rather passed
Staff was friendly And helpful although service not up to standard either: 2 set of Cutlery on the table when we were 4.some of them dirty. 2 glasses brought with the water when we asked for a bottle for the table with glasses.
To sum up: the place 2 be might be a nice place for a pub vibe: cheap food, cheap music and I must admit a nice setting, but shouldn't pretend to be what they are not and set their customers for disappointment when they can't deliver what they advertised and sold.
We had paid a deposit otherwise would have turned around after the starter.
I was very embarrassed to have book this for my mother in law and her family, thinking of taking her out for a treat.
Not a great experience. Food and menu was very basic, bland and not very appetising. Food and drinks were over priced for what you get. Service below standard and staff could be more friendly and welcoming. This place was dirty and not well maintained. Dirt road to the restaurant is in bad shape and could damage your car if you do not have a 4x4.
