Tortellino d'Oro reviews
54 Food was delicious but the establishment wouldn't serve us tap water, only imported tap water available at R 81 a bottle.
Felt extorted
Had a birthday dinner for two on a weekday night. The ambiance was cozy, the service impeccable, yet the food a bit hit-or-miss. The amuse bouche zucchini chips were well-flavored but soggy. Our favorite dish was the stuffed fresh asparagus—absolutely divine! The butternut ravioli, while authentic and spiked with nutmeg and almonds, was too sweet for my personal taste. The bolognese was unfortunately over-salted and the gramigna pasta overcooked. The prices were reasonable for the caliber and service.
Overall, I would go back just for the asparagus, and maybe to try a few more dishes. This would be a 3.5 star, but the service was great, so bumping it to 4.
Food was really good.
We were refused tap water and only water that was available was R89.
The chairs were also extremely uncomfortable.
As I arrived at 5pm, I was asked to leave 2 hrs later because I hadn’t ordered food. I ordered 3-4 beverages as I pursued finishing my articles for varsity due to loadsheding at home less than 2 mins away. I feel as tho the owner approached me assuming I was here for “computering fun” and didn’t bother to ask why I’ve been here for the 2 hours and still contributing to her restaurant.
Excellent full breakfast with lamb sausages. Plate is a composition of additional treats such sliced aubergine and zucchini. Americano best quality. Service sooooo slow.
Fantastic restaurant, the food was authentic and excellent, the waiters attentive and the atmosphere very warm and welcoming
Waiter was a piece, full of it, I've been there before and it was an amazing experience. I took my wife out for her birthday to fancy Italian place. She loved the food but they sat us in a corner and the waiter acted as if he was being forced to serve us. Didn't bother staying for dessert.
What a delectable experience. The pasta is out of this world.
Highly recommend.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
The deli is a lovely extra.
Fantastic ambiance, food and service. Pasta was delightful and served fast. Waiter was very pleasant and served us quickly and efficiently. By the way, don't expect to see pizza on the menu
The prices are OBSCENE. If you're eating and shopping here, it's cos you don't know any better.
I really enjoyed the bolognese and their veggie lasagna. The only cocktail they make is an Aperol Spritz and it was good. Cute set-up with a bakery and other items for sale.
The owner of this restaurant is a horrible person. My parents in law really enjoyed the place for a while, we went there often for lunch. The last time they went there, they had a small complaint about a dessert - and the owner couldn't take the criticism at all - she resorted to racist remarks, and made an absolute scene. Disgusting behaviour. What a pity.
THE OWNER IS A BLATANT RACIST>>
This was my original post: "My family and I love coming here. Authentically Italian food, great service. Has a super cute atmosphere, too. I recommend! "
My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for months. We have spent thousands and thousands at this restaurant over the last year. We have selected this restaurant over the many in JHB to spend our time at.
However, my parent's most recent visit to this establishment is one I won't forget.
My father made a comment about the Mille-feuille dessert being soggy and not crispy. This comment was not made without prompt. He was asked what he thought of it. The waiter told the female owner/ manager. She then attacked my parents saying "What do you know about food, We don't take money from Chinese people. "
My parents grew up in a French Colonial Country and have lived in South Africa for 32 years. They nor I even speak Chinese.
I am so completely disgusted by the owner. She is a blatant racist and it is appalling. It is such a shame.
This is NOT authentic Italian food.
A GREAT CON by Catarina.
Don't waste your money.
Cheap ingredients to mask bad food
DISGUSTING
My family and I love coming here. Authentically Italian food, great service. Has a super cute atmosphere, too. I recommend!
It's good quality food, don't get me wrong, but you can have an equal to better experience in other Italian restaurants at similar or better pricing in JHB. Not much more I can say other than that.
Great atmosphere but "wow", their prices are over the top for what seems ordinary Italian.
Probably the best Italian bistro in Johannesburg! They have a classic menu and do all the dishes well, highly recommended.
I rather recommend Ristorante di Trinita or Franco's Tratoria or Aurum, but never this place.
The middle-aged woman is the worst hostess I ever met in the world. She was shockingly bad.
