Voortrekker Monument reviews
39Everyime I visited the VTM, I found sometjing new to do, to see and to experience. Cultural hub. Variety activities available for the day. Accessible for wheelchair users.
Great historical place to get to see and take the children. Views are good, architecture is good and all looked after, well.
Absolutely gorgeous here, we spent hours looking around, its so well maintained and an absolute gem.
We did not have a pleasant experience. Reception had huge attitude and didn't explain things we asked about.
As a white man, I'm disgusted that a Zulu funeral service was held at the monument. Our forefathers must be turning in their graves, especially after what this monument signifies! After a recent visit where I was charged R750 for 3 people (one of whom was foreign, and the price for her immediately changed to more expensive!) I don't think I want to return again. To me the senior management should be sacked for spitting in the face of our forefathers memories. There are many ways to generate funds without being a SELLOUT. Bestuur is twee gesig veraaier gemors, voetsek!
It is wonderful to know that one time a year on 16 December the sunshine goes via a hole in the dome roof into the underground floor.
A disturbing place.
I am absolutely in favor of preserving all historical monuments in order to learn from the past.
However it seems like a place stuck in time with historical explanations often deviated, hidden or told in the key of conquerors.
I felt guilty for having paid the entrance fee, which was very expensive.
Ps the driver was told it was all in Afrikaans and would not understand anything (found out later that there were QR codes) and got glares from some of the staff
We visited on 2 Sept 2023, our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised. Always thought it was just a monument but what lovely grounds and gardens.
Inside you get to work through different stages of the Voortrekkers, the different leaders
Some really great art work, old wagons and various items.
At the top you able to walk around and get views of Pretoria. There is a lift for those not able to walk the many steps
It was really worth the visit even though the cost was a bit steep at R205pp, there is a discount for pensioners
What a fantastic experience. So proud to be South African when I see the beauty our ancestors created.
Ek was onlangs by due Monument gewees en was baie beindruk gewees met Die Afrikander Handelshuis winkeltjie. Goeie mense, baie vriendelike personeel en behulpsaam met n groot verskeidenheid produkte wat ek nooit eers sou gedink het n mens kry nie. Definitief n plek om te gaan besoek!
Not there for a museum visit, bit an Advenrurerun trail. All on the tar and tough. Recommend sticking to the 5km as the 10km is a repeat of the first.
Well maintained, safe place with lots of history, nature and superb views of Pretoria. Worth a visit.
Wonderlike ervaring. Ons gaan beslis meer male daar aandoen. Beslis volgende jaar weer op 16 Desember. Maar ook 'n paar keer tussenin.
A monument and tribute to the pioneer spirit of South Africans. This is a beautiful building in its own right and the architecture, construction materials and art work show what a rich heritage we have.
I initially went to visit my gran in the wall of remembrance and was captivated by the welcoming energy of the reception so i decided to make a day of it and go through it. It had been years since i have been to the monument and it was still as beautiful and rich in history as i remember. I can highly recommend visiting
Good culture & heritage museum of the Voortrekkers, the history is told in wall statues, art and artifacts. There is a small gift shop and restaurant.
Was a nice experience they are trying to make it available and sustainable for our history. I enjoyed our Saturday there.
Great place as always. Just did not appreciate the fact that I have to give my number when going in "because of COVID", and then get spam call next day to ask if I want to join " friend of Monument".
Wonderful place to visit. All about our inheritance.
Don't forget to visit restaurant Skoolbus. Good food at affordable prices.
