Yamato Japanese Restaurant reviews
34630pm on a Thursday and was the only customers in the restaurant. We were seated with menu's and after 15 minutes trying to order we left. Employees watched us leave and didn't say a word.
Terrible experience. We sat for 1 hour with not being served our meals while everyone else around us kept getting served. My meal didn't even arrive with my family's meal because the chef Burnt it and had to redo
Was there today for lunch the 23rd of April 2023. Will never go back spent R1500 threw my money to food that was tasteless, prawns were not deveined and stiff, ate tepanyaki at Just Beijing restaurant was delicious thought iwould enjoy the dish so I ordered. Will not be going there or recommend to anyone to go there the food was awful, MY 1st and last visit there.
Overpriced place. Tuna didn’t taste like tuna; udon is not udon, more like soba- maybe chef used wrong type of noodle. The broth is too salty. I can’t even eat half of it. Ice cream is okay.
Do not ever eat here.
Not only the food is not authentic AT ALL, also not fresh. I could actually taste the time and memories the food had been through in their kitchen.
I am shocked they claim to be 'japanese' restaurant. It's a 'kind of asian-ish' restaurant. This food is not from anywhere on this planet.
The menu item we ordered via uber eats stated 22 pieces of sushi in total. When we received the order, it only had 14 pieces. We then phoned the restaurant to confirm, only to find an extremely rude manager who insisted that they cannot and have never made a mistake and we are wrong or that uber eats made a mistake on the menu. Then she hung up the phone in my ear. Will NEVER order from this restaurant again!
The sushi wasn't bad but the price was ridiculous. R660 for a portion of nigiri, salmon Maki and 2 x prawn tempura hand rolls. They also charge extra if you want mayonnaise and avo in the hand roll. Oh and 1 passion fruit and lemonade. Definitely not worth the price.
Firstly, the Melrose arch is a beautiful place.
Now on to this Yamato Review.
1. The Service is slow AF.
2. Server is lifeless. Adds no value to the experience.
3. Ordered the curry spring roll, it was warm on the outside and cold on the inside.
4. Ordered the Miso Chasu ramen, lol, it’s literally miso soup with “chasu” inside. Sad times here.
5. Ordered fried noodles, they were bland.:/
6. The sparkling (bottled water) was great.
7. I gave this place two stars because it was in Africa, and I can’t seem to roast other blacks fully in my reviews.
Good ambience and temperature are few other things besides quality to enjoy good food I believe. It was sweltering hot yesterday and inspite of enough overhead aircons, none of them were put into good use to keep the atmosphere cool and refreshing for their customers. The food was also very average, to the greasy side and the chicken was half cooked cubes for the high price you pay. Definitely not a welcoming place to revisit.
Food was ok. Definitely overpriced but decent. Environment could use special attention to cleaning properly. Waiters could use proper hospitality training to how they talk to customers and they could be given proper workwear.
Great restaurant! There is a very extensive menu and the food was great. Took some of our own drinks.
Quite expensive for the quality of food.sushi was average & the fried noodles were too salty.
Sushi was good, but food was just ok for the price. Aircon was not working during a hot day as well
A decent place if you enjoy Japanese cuisine. The Ramen is different compared to other places I have had. There is no other vegetables in it. Other than that was a pleasant outing.
Small restaurant average decor - Average service - we were served with tuna mayo appetizers. We love Asian food however this restaurant was not for us.
Went there to try my first bowl of Ramen, it was good, but not great. The sushi was banging though, very fresh.
Quickly popped in for a meal.
Great ramen and dumplings. Sushi was also really good.
The waitresses were literally running to ensure they were able to attend to the tables.
Well worth it.
Yamato NEVER disappoints. Their Sushi is always fresh and cut to perfection. Nothing more heart-breaking than cuts not being as fresh as they should be. Yamato does not have this issue. Easily a dinner choice, when cooking isn't an option - Or just because there sushi is delicious. Highly recommended.
Lovely cosy restaurant tucked in Illovo. I had the ramen and I loved it! The interior decor is also so lovely and the owner was very attentive to my group's needs.
