Cafe Jiran reviews
15Staff were rude qnd unfriendly. The food was tasteless and amateurish. See photo. That was suppose to be deep fried hake. Box fish from I&J. NO MAN!
Worthwhile to sit down relax and enjoy a cold beer. Food is reasonable.
Unfortunately they don't have great beer on tab.
Went there for some good dessert and Chai latte. Only 3 desserts in the menu. Non of them that I liked. No fresh cream to go with the brownies. My Chai was very disappointing. Used to be a great place to catch up with friends.
What rubbish service.waiter was a stuck up ****, blenders broken so couldn't make what we wanted. Quite sad, used to love this Cafe.
Cocktail was decent (a bit strong but it's not often that a bar offers more spirits than dash). Food however was absolutely pathetic. Everything tasted like it was cooked ages ago and just got microwaved. The "fried" fish we ordered had clear evidence of microwaving (looked like a microwaved fish finger with some damp spots in the crust). The wings were hot on one side, and cold on another. Chips were very dry and stale. We had to discard the horrible food after a few bites here and there. We had gotten takeaways. Maybe dining in is better but I wouldn't put my money on it.
Very poor
Upon entering the staff were not friendly and sadly the menu is NOT what it was.
Very sad
Bit of a problem ordered Prego Chicken roll. No chicken in stock offered Beef I accepted only to get beef patty. If wanted a burger I would have ordered it. Nothing near Prego roll it was very dry without any Prego sauces
Most beautiful experiences. Very friendly and helpful staff. Most beautifully presented food and drinks. Be it just a cappuccino, or a scrumptious romantic dinner, one will never be disappointed. Situated on the promenade. Comfortable seating inside or outdoors.
I usually went there with an indian or white & got the best treatment ever not long ago went with my african friend & we were told to wait outside (windy, cold raining weather) to be seated in yet there were vacant tables just not cleaned. We walked out & ate somewhere. Nxaaaah. Cash & card accepted. Cossy & romantic area indeed. Kids are allowed & perfect outing for the whole family.
This place is catastrophic. A run-of-the-mill menu with no possible first or even second choices. Shocking decor punctuated by slow and chaotic service. An experience not to be repeated.
The newly renovated restaurant is looking good with slick decor and comfy chairs for relaxing with a cup of coffee. The service was friendly and attentive.
I ordered a Beef and Guinness pie and was quite disappointed. The pastry was flat and rubbery and the meat was dry. The salad was small and lacked inspiration. My husband's chicken breast was dry and unappetizing. The fries were good though. Overall the meal was expensive and not worth the price. A lack lustre meal best forgotten.
The menu lacked variety and many of the wonderful items on the previous fine dining menu are no longer available. I hanker for the days of fine dining at Jiran. It seems they are gone
Stunning restaurant, serene, excellent vibe! Can have private parties too, wonderful, beautiful place to have your own get together. Food is absolutely amazing, service is excellent and I will definitely go back!
Not a place to meet friends for coffee and chat as the environment is so noisy due to lack of sound absorption materials. Addition of sound absorption tiles on parts of the ceiling would make this a great coffee shop.
Food: Peri-peri chicken livers were very good. Haloumi, bacon, and avo wrap was OK but chunks of haloumi were huge; IMO they should have been cut thinner to mix with the other flavours. Chicken breast was inexcusably way overdone, completely dry, and came with the cheese sauce instead of the mushroom sauce we ordered.
Biggest problem was the kitchen's slowness - during a quiet weekday lunch, it took forty minutes for the appetizer to come and nearly an hour for mains.
No complaints about table service, our waiter was polite and pleasant.
The newly renovated Cafe Jiran is absolutely gorgeous!
A newly enclosed verandah on the South Side of the cafe, with ceiling to floor glass allows you to be inside, but feel like you're outdoors. The perfect spot for the odd bad day in Durban ;)
Sit on comfortable outdoor chairs on the outside verandah, or inside, lounge on a couch, perch on a bar stool if you must.but get there!
Sit and watch the world pass you by as you sip on your cappucinno.
If it's a bar stool you chose - you get to sit in an uber stylish place and watch whatever's being flighted on the TV.
Cappucinnos were a treat and served with the most delicious shortbread.just like grandma made.
Sthe was our very friendly waiter - and it was a joy to see our favourite, Veli, is still here being his wonderful self! A real asset to Cafe Jiran.
Holiday makers are back home, Cafe Jiran is back in full swing, the sun is shining and the promenade is beckoning. I know where I'll be more often!
Do I need to say highly recommended
