Apart from the view of the sharks and fish, this is the most disappointing meal we a family have eaten in South Africa. The standards are always low in Durban, but the manager of this restaurant needs to reconsider their post. Taste of food - terrible: the venison was tough as leather despite ordered medium. Only about a quarter was edible. The rice was tasteless and brittle, typically of stale rice reheated in a microwave. The peri sauce tasted like wax, it was disgusting! The only positive was the kids chicken strips and chips, which was actually made fresh. But this is not a restaurant you go to for a kids meal. The orange juice was seemingly just Tropika Nectarine juice. As a premium restaurant, it's a disgraceful waste of a great location. Shameful to see this in my hometown.

One of the absolute amazing experiences in cargo hold restaurant. Loved the food fresh and not disappointing highly recommend it to every celebration the service absolutely 10.

The views of the aquarium were spectacular. The entire team was so welcoming and professional, and all our expectations were met. We'll come back every time we're in the area. Best Kingklip I've ever had!

Had my wedding at the restaurant. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. The food was amazing! It was an intimate wedding that was absolutely perfect! Thank you Cargo Hold.

I hosted my sisters birthday dinner @Cargo Hold Restaurant and their service was absolutely AMAZING. Chef Warren and some staff members helped me with my decor setup without even having to ask. They went out of their way to make sure that everything was perfect (and exactly the way I want), before the birthday girl and other guests arrived. Even the ladies at reception were very welcoming, including the rest of the staff as well. The food was absolutely delicious, everything was just, 10/10 minus NOTHING!

Cargo Hold is situated next to Ushaka Marine inside the ship.
The interior where you can see a huge shark/fish tank is amazing!
The pasta was a little overpriced but the atmosphere was good. Good for the experience.

Very poor, management/owner negativity issue reflecting through to staff/restuarant. Limited food stocks available, food served not of good quality, very disappointing indeed

Well spaced charming restaurant. Loved the aquarium view and there portions were very generous. Drinks are pricey though but definitely worth the dinning experience.

Really shoddy experience. We walked past and from the outside it looked promising so we had high expectations but sadly the whole offering is below par. As we sat down, we were given a long list of items that weren't available, practically half the menu, which raised alarm bells, but my girlfriend and her parents insisted we give it a try and thought maybe they just had a bad day. We decided to keep it simple and go for the beef fillet and the fish of the day. Their "basting" is so overpowering that you can't even taste the meat. Temperature was served medium well, but ordered mid rare, I was too hungry to ask for another steak. Chips tasted like they were fried in really old oil. My girlfriend's fish was definitely frozen, no hint of freshness at all. Her parents weren't impressed with their meals either. We didn't bother complaining, we didn't even see any manager or supervisor in site only what seemed to be the head chef going to a few tables. This is probably just the norm for them and just the type of restaurant they are. No care for customer satisfaction at all especially at those prices. Will never bother going back.

I am not one to usually give a really bad review but unfortunately feel I have to. Only plus is the uniqueness of the venue. As for service I actually give them a zero. I emailed them on the 23rd January for a copy of the menu (since it is not on their website) as well as availability for the 26th as it was my 50th Birthday. As of yet I have received nothing. I ended up ringing them and making a booking for 6 people. Last night was disappointing though.the menu is very limited.the 2 steak dishes were overcooked had an odd flavor basting/sauce on it. My prawns were tough and over cooked and the accompanying rice was dry and flavourless. The puddings were just as bad and limited. There were about 4 pudding options.chocolate pudding, lemongrass ice cream, an apple creme brulee dish and seasonal fruit. Definitely no wow factor. So we ordered 2 chocolate volcanic, 3 apple dishes, and one ice-cream with chocolate sauce. The 3 people eating the chocolate volcanic and the ice cream said they were really not enjoying their meals and it seemed bitter. On investigation we found that balsamic vinegar had been drizzled all over them instead of chocolate sauce. When we showed the waitress she went to the kitchen and said the 2 bottles looked the same and it was their error. No major apology, no manager or chef came to apologize. Needless to say they did bring us 3 new desserts and they were enjoyable when the right sauce was put on them. Due to such a bad error on their side I really feel the manager/chef should go to the customer and apologize and at least one of those replacement puddings could be given for free or they could have given us a free drink.anything to "sweeten" the experience. So yeah.won't go back.won't recommend.

Have not been there in a long time. Really disappointing experience. Half of the main courses not to satisfaction. Desert too was destroyed by putting balsamic vinegar on instead of chocolate sauce. Service has gone backwards and no apologies after complaints were raised. Was left for the poor waitress to deal with the situation. No senior involvement. Based on what I spent will not be going back there in a hurry.

Came here for the first time on my b-day last year. It was a stunning experience. The unique atmosphere and the view of the tank is breathtaking. Food was amazing but took maybe too long.but you know what they say about good things. Enjoyed my date. Will definitely recommend it to one and all and be back. The bathrooms are clean and retain the 'ship' theme. It is quite cool - always love a restaurant w a cute theme all around. The restaurant is a giant ship from the outside and is decorated beautifully. No complaints.

DISLIKED:
- Average customer / waiter service
- Poor quality chairs and tables
- Above average pricing

OVERALL:
- Unique venue and experience; worth a visit if one can afford ~R500-R650 per person

Awsome restaurant and the ambiance was just perfect. Food served was even more delicious and generous servings. Definitely worth revisiting.

Staff are friendly and attentive.
Food was underwhelming. Had the line fish which was over cooked, rice was bland, sauce was runny and the chips were not great either. Extremely over priced for what was served.

Lovely views of tanks with sharks in and other fish. Friendly staff. Complimentary sherry was served and the platter ordered had delicious king klip, prawns, calamari and such. Food was excellent. Lovely experience.

Booked a table next to the tank weeks in advance for an anniversary dinner. This was expressed to the gentleman taking the booking who stated he would make a note of it (being a special occasion and all). Got there on time at 7pm and seated in the middle on the restaurant. Was told my booking was for 6pm and there were no tables by the tank. An accusation that was clearly an obvious cover up for the ineptitude of the staff.

Needless to say we left immediately. Not one to make a scene. Ruined what was meant to be a special evening. Such a pity.
