Lodging Shingwedzi Restcamp reviews
25Decent camp with a range of cabins, the luxury ones are quite nice but the standard ones could use a big update, they feel quite aged and are not in great condition. Basic amenities supplied, the cabins with cooking facilities have pots and pans, plates and cutlery, convection stove top which is hit and miss, and all cabins have an outdoor braai. The rest camp itself is not much to marvel at, though the atmosphere around the cabins is quite and cosy especially in the early morning when there is Birdlife, or evening when neighbours are all cooking outside. The camp has a laundry facility but at the time we were there the washing machines were out of service and only two dryers were available. The location of the camp itself was great for us wanting to see lots of the northern Kruger areas, and was a fruitful visit for seeing wildlife.
The stay was generally good. Some more ablution facilities will be great. The distribution of electrical power points aren't great.
Restaurant not open. Shop is well stocked and can you buy anything from fresh products to clothes from them.
Very nice rest camp, well kept. Nice pool. Monkeys do take advantage of opportunities. The shop needs to be stocked a bit better.
Well stocked shop & helpful staff however only one outside tap in whole campsite. Plenty electrical points. Ablusions & laundry good but no kitchen facilities.
Lovely setting, Shingwedzi restcamp. And impala lillies in full bloom.
Stayed here in August 2021, at the campsite.
Clean ablutions although could do with upgrading. Pleasant stay, although at the time campsite not full.
Nice level stand. Not cropped in. Reasonable amount of plug network. Ablutions clean but start showing maintenance needs. One washing machine Out of order. Mayfair could act quicker to repair or suggest a upgrade in washing machine. This camp BIG need a proper washing facilities. A extra ablution could be considered. Tree cutting and cleaning under trees could help for need look.
Clean ablutions. No complaints. We enjoyed our stay, excepts for too many day visitors. People who had bookings, found it difficult to move around
Nice camping next to the fence. Just witnessed elephants next to the fence eating grass. Facilities in the camp area are good, level camp sites with power.
Clean, comfortable and everything you need. We had a one night stop over were happy with all the amenities.
Easy to book online.
What a nice restcamp! It has a big shop, restaurant and a pool.
We slept in one of their so called huts. It has 3 single beds, fridge, kettle and washing base. Unfortunately it has no toilet or shower so we had to use the ablution blocks. There is also a comminial kitchen, if you do not want to braai.
A will definitely visit again.
Perfectly situated redtcamp for some day trips into the nlrthern Kruger.well-appointed and clean and well-stocked.
So it was this other morning when I was home at nzhelele mandala village, so me and jy sister decided to drive to Kruger National Park, we left around 10 am, the journey is 1h29 munites, it was our first time going there, we took the kids and go.we arrived at Phundamaria road.we paid +R150 each, kids under 2 years don't pay, so you can say you kid is 1y9. We decided to drive to Shingwedzi.
The 1st 10km was cool, we saw like 10 Girafees, many Zebras, and Springboks.after 10 km of driving we enter the wold of Elephants, I have seen elephant at the Zoo but yooo at wild there are too many and massive, it was like every 5km there is a family of Elephant +10 at once, there was this time where out of nowhere there were in the road yerr, my car switched offI felt so smallin that car, my sister s kid was so excited to see them very close, no wonder they say 40 km/h so the whole trip to Shingwedzi was more of Elephants, giraffe, springboard and zebra (mammals), we didn't see an big cats, nix. I guess we had to go off tar road and our car was small.
The river is really dry now, there is not much to see.
My tips:
The reception should have a more detailed Map, may be to for 30km you likely to see this and that, and if you want to see this and that you need to come early or later and this is the direction you need to take.
The whole 70km to Shingwedzi from Phundamaria, there is no place to park safely and watch but like I said maybe we needed to go off tar road.
Alway take and SUV, 4x4, I mean big cars so they can give you that peace of mind that you bit up there.
If you planning to visit Kruger don't go as a dateyou will faintand you don't want to be compromised.
Anyway if you planning to visit Kruger, please book and sleep over and also pay for tour guide, their fees are reasonable, I think is more calmer to get a guide because those people know that place better and you will likely see every animal.
And remember Kruger National Park is a jungle so there are no malls there, so prepare yourself and buy whatever you need for the trip, don't worry about petrol they do have Total garage there.
Trip to the national park is also good for your children, I remember Jesica kept on saying moo, because that all she knows from our village a cow.
All the best to your next visit to Kruger.
Really quiet camp if you stay on the chalets, not sure about the camp sites.
Reception staff could be a little more friendly however the restaurant staff are amazing. Food is good at the restaurant, no complaints. Shop has toiletries, fresh fruit and vegetables (limited variety), frozen meat, snacks, condiments and Braai necessaries. Alcohol and cigarettes also sold.
Lots of Lion and leopard sightings during the day (early morning) but we got to see jackal, hyena, lion and leopard (with her fresh kill in a tree) on a night drive. Check out their animal sightings board, pick a route to follow and enjoy!
We had a comfortable stay. Unit was neat and clean and a lot of space to put your luggage and not fall over it. Elisa made our beds look pretty.
A nice still camp in the North of the Kruger National Park. Lovely river drives with massive old trees and great scenery. Tends to be very quite and sightings are great with less congestion at sightings. A camping spot next to the fence assured you of at least one of the big five and the night sounds are impressive.
Was great to be there for the day. It could be kept in a better state and more effort from staff.they seem to have less of everything compared to the lower camps
Staff is friendly. But take cash as either the petrol station or shop's card machines often do not work.
Visited campsite for two nights i.e. 29 and 30 April. Staff all incredibly friendly and camp cleaning crew did a stirling job. Once again however, the northern camps falling into a sad state because of lack of maintenance. Thatched roof at reception and restaurant area requires urgent attention, electrical cables could also pose a threat to life and could be a fire hazard. Sincerely hope more attention paid in future to basic maintenance.
Day visitors to Shigwedzi are traveling back to (Punda Maria?) at high speed and this at 17h00 in the afternoon. We pay a lot of money to stay and visit KNP but these reckless drivers needs to be prosecuted. Driving more than 50km/h is still an offense according to the rules!
