Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij

Visited the van Gaalen Cheese Farm to do a hike and it was beautiful. A moderate hike with clearly marked paths, we did the 10km trail which had sufficient shade and sun. Stopped at the terrace restaurant for breakfast. Service was great with a beautiful view. Food was good.

Old fashioned laid-back place. Hiking trails are great. You have an option of turning back every kilometer or so. There are black berries en route, apricots etc. Most of the route is partially shaded. You definitely need Hiking boots because there are some parts where the tractors are busy gardening & the soil is somewhat uneven & rough.
The restaurant does not offer cruesents & the strawberry daiquiri dors not have crushed ice. Otherwise, the menu is basic. However, cheese & wine lovers are in for a treat due to cheese products & tours.

I have to say Van Gaalen was a massive disappointment. The pizza we ordered had a good base, but the size and toppings were skimmed for the price, and it was definitely not worth it. The ribs and side salad were poor quality. Also, a lot of what was on the menu wasn't available to order and the service was not the best. I don't recommend this place if you want good food worthy of the price and good service.

Beautifull area to visit.sit underneath the trees and eat.we had 2 pizzas.lovely baked.and so fresh.we bought chease at shop.and ladies working there were so helpfull.this is definetly a place you must visit.

Lovely farmlike atmosphere and a great setting. The breakfast menu, however, was very disappointing and can do with a major revamp. Cheeses are top notch.

Family friendly hiking next to pecan orchids and a stream. Live entertainment, great food, very popular, non technical mountain biking (shared track), kids having fun on aerial runway. Very good prices, secure guarded parking.

Booked the cheese tour and picnic for a special birthday celebration. Received amazing and friendly service. The picnic spot was perfect. Enjoyed the food. Thank you for making our special day even more special!

When is enough, enough? This place was a gem. Not anymore. Waited an hour for our food and found it on the counter ice cold with flies crawling on it. After we complained it was reheated an served to us. The chicken wings and spring rolls were as dry as cardboard, the pizza was raw dough. Will never set foot here again. When we left there were only 3 tables occupied. Definitely ruined our day.

A safe and enjoyable place to visit. They have a large variety of cheeses and imported biscuits and trinkets available. They have a tour of the cheese making process. They also have walking trails into the hills and valleys in the area. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Worth visiting

Far enough out of the city to feel like a road trip. Pretty relaxed atmosphere. Caters for both people with kids and those without. One plus thing that this is not the "Spur kinda kids" screaming all over the place.

This place is amazing to hike at. The views, and the fact that it's flat throughout. We did the 15km trail and it was amazing. The scenery is great. It wasn't a waste. Entrance is R50

Zeer karig wat het proeven van de kaassoorten betreft wat een kaasproeferij betreft en dat voor 158
rand. Je had een vergrootglas nog om de kaas te kunnen zien. Laat staan het proeven. Geen kaas bereiding te zien.
Niet eens een stuk kaas met een visitekaartje voor het aanbevelen aan derde. Niet een aanbeveling voor derde.
Zeker geen aanrader waard.
Eens en nooit meer.
Zeer onprofessioneel aangepakt.

Went for the cheese tour.
It was really informative and enlightening.
The shop has many cheeses on sale with some other Dutch produce.
Many activities for day hiking spanning many other farms.
Didn't really eat here but the food looked good.
People come for cheese and wine tasting

Very fun to see the cheese made on site. Lovely outside area. Service was good, and manager handled complaints well. Unfortunately I had one of the pastas and it made me nauseus; no flavour besides cream. I recommend getting the only thing they're good for: a sandwich/ burger with one of their house cheeses. 3 small dogs run between tables begging for food, not sure what's up with that #HealthAndSafety?

We did the hiking trails and we were not informed that one of the bridges had been washed away causing much difficulty and added time to exit the trail. The service at the restaurant was particularly disappointing, and the local beer tasted like SAB.

I was longing to see it. Setting is exquisite with the mountain backdrop. Plenty of parking. Restaurant had a collection of rickety mismatched grubby chairs and tables. A huge raucous party making a dreadful noise were not asked by the manager to be considerate. It was 10h: 45 and they were clearly drunk. We waited an age for the staff to find us a table, in the end we found our own. Waited another age to be served. Coffee immediately, but half a cup. The cake arrived long after the coffee was drunk. My husband ordered ice cream with his. He got cream. Then two waitresses arrived with four plates of food and insisted that we had ordered them.
I am a huge cheesecake fan and expected that a cheese farm would produce utter sublime perfection in a cheesecake. It was a very small slice for R75, and extremely sweet. The cheese layer was very thin topped with something unidentifiable. My husband had the Dutch apple cake which he said was really excellent.
Toilets were scruffy and one door had no lock. No soap.
The end product was hugely disappointing after the anticipation.

Loved the atmosphere more than anything, you can take the whole family and chill with no rush, love it, loved it

A restaurant with a menu that caters for all tastes and budgets, surrounded by walking and mtb trails, lovely open fields with streams and rivers, and obviously great coffee.

Highly recommend doing the hiking trail and have a snack & drink at the restaurant afterward. Lovely farm
