Prosopa Restaurant reviews
46It was our favorite place to go for a date night. We ordered one of the speciality Mains "Sherry Braised chiken" with good expectations. The food was bland and not up to standard. I think Dino Fagan needs to re-think this specific dish.
We have date nights every Wednesday, and as per normal, I wanted something special, so that is why I chise Prosopa as per their lovely photos on their website. However from the start to the finish it did little to impress us, especially when it comes to "fine dining"! We ordered the Moussaka since it's a true Greek dish, but little did we know we were in for a very big dissapointment! They advertise "Lamb and beef Ragu" in the dish, but what we got was plain beef mince.and this for the exorbetant price of R188 pp! As much as we would like to have returned ro this restaurant, sadly they will never see us again. Hopefully the management/owners will take the time to read this review and try to improve on quality, value for money and ambiance!
I’ve been a regular customer of Prosopa for many years but no more. Ordered a kleftiko today and got pan fried tough-as-leather lamb steak instead. Don’t call it a kleftiko if it isn’t one. When we wanted to order mains it took ages to get the waiter’s attention and 3 dishes we tried to order were out of stock. Tell upfront when you don’t have something, don’t wait until we ordered to tell us. If you charge premium prices the food and service should match it. Sadly it doesn’t anymore.
Very disappointing, The food was not great, the cheesecake was terrible, the whole ambiance is not Greek at all. Certainly not going back. P. S The wine was the best part of the evening.
It was our anniversary celebration and they got the details wrong of the special arrangements made.
Food was enjoyable but they got one of the orders wrong as well.
A mixed experience overall.
Souvlaki sticks - Meat was off, brinjals, hummus and pita's were excellent, cappuccino was beyond bitter and undrinkable.
Let me start by saying it is a good restaurant. I had seared salmon and my wife had moussaka. Both meals were good, not divine, but good. Definitely worth 4 stars at least had it not been for the very steep pricing of the dishes.
Had lunch at Newton Johnson wine Estate in Hemel & Aarde Valley a week earlier. Better food, more or less 40% cheaper.
A nice welcoming restaurant, with food ranging from good to ordinary. In a Greek restaurant I expect to find only Greek cuisine, not pasta ala Bolognese or pasta in general, just as I don't expect to find lettuce and radishes in a Greek salad. Other things are very, very good, such as the pork ribs with honey, ouzo and thyme, the fried aubergines and meatballs are excellent, excellent. I would take a more Greek line. Good choice of wines
We recently had lunch at Prosopa and it was all a very unremarkable. The decor is lovely and the staff are exceptional, but the food was quite ordinary. Don't get me wrong, the quality was excellent and everything tasted good, but nothing was sublime. Actually the gin and grapefruit was sublime and the barman kindly made me a virgin version of it. We had the mezzo platter, kleftiko lamb, beef souvlaki and the kleftiko ravioli. The lamb was delicious as was the souvlaki, but the ravioli had a very gloopy thick gravy, which actually detracted from the very delicious lamb filling. Such a pity that the dish was ruined by this thick sauce. We just felt that everything was very ordinary.
Very nice deserts! Nice starters. Main course meals are not really exciting. Good old-fashioned Ouma food, but not really special.
Lovely setting. Appertisers were lovely. Mains were okay. Dessert was amazing. Service was pretty average-our waiter kept forgetting a few orders; but all in all not a bad experience. Maybe next time will be much better.
Always a great experience!
Superb wine list and very attentive waiters.
The fried brinjals are amazing and besides the wine was the highlight for me!
Highly recommended
Quite evening in winter, service and food was excellent, varied menu. Tried 3 courses and enjoyed all. Very good I will return!
Great service and the food is very tasty with a good selection. The interior is a bit dated and could do with a revamp, but it doesn't detract from the dining experience.
This restaurant has great service and nice food. I had the lamb shank, even though it was delicious and the meat fell off the bone, I felt the sauce was over powering and on that note I have had better shanks. The carrots on the plate were hard so I did not eat them. Everyone else enjoyed their food too and we all had a good time.
The atmosphere is very intimate and luxurious. It feels very exclusive. The wine selection is extra ordinary and the corkage fee is very reasonable. The waitrons are passionate and well informed about the food and wine. It's great for a special night out.
Prosopa is a beautiful place. The environment is calm and awesome. I liked the fact that the restuarant accomodated our children and made them feel at ease. The food was delicious. It was our first time at a Greek restuarant. It was my partner's birthday dinner. We enjoyed every moment of it. It was prestigious.
Four of us enjoyed our mains. Menu imaginative. Desserts quite good too. Lighting a little too dim to read the menus. Pleasant venue.
Food is amazing. Drinks served fast. Friendly staff. Will definitely go again. Highly recommended
I absolutely love the new look Prosopa! It's modern, but very inviting and cozy. The food was amazing. Literally the first time in my life that I had aubergine that I liked (okay, loved!). The ribeye steak was done to perfection, and the Crème Brûlée was some of the best I've had. Patron Chef Dino is friendly, fun and attentive, and the waiters were efficient and welcoming. Did I mentioned that the prices were lower than I expected for food of this caliber? I'll stop gushing. Just visit Prosopa!
