Yamato Japanese Restaurant reviews
34630pm on a Thursday and was the only customers in the restaurant. We were seated with menu's and after 15 minutes trying to order we left. Employees watched us leave and didn't say a word.
Terrible experience. We sat for 1 hour with not being served our meals while everyone else around us kept getting served. My meal didn't even arrive with my family's meal because the chef Burnt it and had to redo
Very kind waitresses, the most amazing Japanese food you can get in Joburg and a very kind owner! Can’t wait to go back to try some more of their dishes!
Was there today for lunch the 23rd of April 2023. Will never go back spent R1500 threw my money to food that was tasteless, prawns were not deveined and stiff, ate tepanyaki at Just Beijing restaurant was delicious thought iwould enjoy the dish so I ordered. Will not be going there or recommend to anyone to go there the food was awful, MY 1st and last visit there.
Good food, good atmosphere, excellent service. At the time of writing this review, they have no liquor license so you can byob
Nice casual asian dining. Extensive menu of Asian - not only Japanese - cuisine.
The fish was nice and fresh. Whatever we tried was really tasty.
The sushi wasn't bad but the price was ridiculous. R660 for a portion of nigiri, salmon Maki and 2 x prawn tempura hand rolls. They also charge extra if you want mayonnaise and avo in the hand roll. Oh and 1 passion fruit and lemonade. Definitely not worth the price.
A nice place professionally managed. The staff are well trained. The food is very good. The way it should be. Not many restaurants can make good food but this one obviously takes its job seriously. And succeeds. Can recommend this to anyone.
The unfortunate part of our experience was that the waitress serving us was in a bad mood and kept banging cutlery and food plates on the table. Completely sullen face and disinterested. We assumed this was an exception.
Great restaurant! There is a very extensive menu and the food was great. Took some of our own drinks.
Firstly, the Melrose arch is a beautiful place.
Now on to this Yamato Review.
1. The Service is slow AF.
2. Server is lifeless. Adds no value to the experience.
3. Ordered the curry spring roll, it was warm on the outside and cold on the inside.
4. Ordered the Miso Chasu ramen, lol, it’s literally miso soup with “chasu” inside. Sad times here.
5. Ordered fried noodles, they were bland.:/
6. The sparkling (bottled water) was great.
7. I gave this place two stars because it was in Africa, and I can’t seem to roast other blacks fully in my reviews.
We visited Yamato as all the other restaurants in the Arch were jam packed during the Christmas light event and I must say I am so glad that it turned out that way
As a lover of all things related to Asian cuisine, this was an absolute gem of a find. We had a few dishes: Sho-Yu ramen, tempura prawn, noodles and others and each of them were cooked to perfection. I’ve been after a proper ramen for ages and this hit the craving properly. You’ve earned a permanent patron. I will definitely be back soon.
Such a lovely place to dine and experience authentic Japanese food. It has survived the test of time.
Food and ambiance exceptional.
What a magical experience. Compliments to owner, staff and Chef.
Overpriced place. Tuna didn’t taste like tuna; udon is not udon, more like soba- maybe chef used wrong type of noodle. The broth is too salty. I can’t even eat half of it. Ice cream is okay.
Quickly popped in for a meal.
Great ramen and dumplings. Sushi was also really good.
The waitresses were literally running to ensure they were able to attend to the tables.
Well worth it.
Quite expensive for the quality of food.sushi was average & the fried noodles were too salty.
I Got The Miso Cha-shu Ramen And All I Can Say Is It’s Top 2 But Not 2 And Shoutout To The Owner For The Friendly Service. I Will Definitely Be A Regular Here.
This restaurant is authentically Japanese which might catch those unfamiliar with the cuisine by surprise. My wife & I consider this one of our special Joburg-eating-out spots. The sushi is fresh and the other items are just like we had in Japan a couple of years (pre-covid) ago.
Sushi was good, but food was just ok for the price. Aircon was not working during a hot day as well
Good ambience and temperature are few other things besides quality to enjoy good food I believe. It was sweltering hot yesterday and inspite of enough overhead aircons, none of them were put into good use to keep the atmosphere cool and refreshing for their customers. The food was also very average, to the greasy side and the chicken was half cooked cubes for the high price you pay. Definitely not a welcoming place to revisit.
