Mopani Rest Camp reviews
39We just visited Mopani Rest Camp as we were booked in at Tsendse. We had coffee at the restaurant and did the walk around the camp which was all very pleasant. There seems to be a problem with litter in the camps and there was litter in the bushes along the walk, which was a pity.
Probably our favorite rest camp. Beautifully located next to a lake, on a hill, what more can you ask for. Accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Restaurant could improve a bit, but we still had a good time. Will definitely make it part of our yearly trek. Baobab trees in the camp were magical.
The best camp for me for the locations of the bungalows.spaces from each other.lots of vegetation therefore lots of observation (birds, reptiles)
Average restaurant, little choice of meat, not great compared to Satara and Skuzuka.
Nice staff.
Mopani Rest Camp is located in a area of the Kruger National Park that is surrounded by Mopani trees. This camp is known for its serene atmosphere. The Boulders restaurant serves excellent meals, and you can visit the nearby Pioneer Dam. The camp has one of the iconic trees you will see in movies like the Lion King, namely the baobab tree species and you can get a close up experience with this tree in the safety of the camp walls. The camp has some nice views over the dam and is worth the pass through or stay over on your safari in the Kruger National Park.
Surely the apartments are very spartan, not the best in cleanliness, but all in all they can be fine for a few days, in any case the price-quality ratio is not bad considering other structures with really high prices. The restaurant's cuisine is also discreet, but above all the view, just look out and see elephants and other animals. There is also a very useful shop. When you go out, close the road well if you have to take the direction of Giriyondo, we got lost. Beautiful Kruger
We stopped at the rest camp to enjoy breakfast. The ablution near the restaurant was shocking with the floor partially under water due to a leaking water pipe. The washbasins were filthy, and certain toilets had no paper. There was no handsoap or any papertowels to dry your hands. It was really a disappointing experience.
Nice camp and restaurant with a beautiful view over the dam. There is ots of game to see, especially if you do the fence line walk. The accomodation is better than most other camps. Food was good and our waitress was helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay and will return again. PS: there seems to be a sewerage problem, a couple manholes were overflowing on the property!
We had a very bad experience, according to the camp manager, a troop of baboon ransacked our closed fridge. So, to keep any well-educated Baboon out of your fridge, take a padlock with.
Mopani is a great camp. Accomodation is excellent and very private. Nice shop and the deck is great to look out over the dam
The camp is situated in beautiful surroundings, but the state of the accomodation is poor. It seems there is no person responsible for the upkeep of the accomodation. Plumbing a major concern as the toilet floatvalves are all blocked by limscale.
The restaurant has an amazing view
Honestly I can't get enough of it. The food, the meat was sooooo tender and delicious. Think I'll drive to this camp more often just for their food
Amazing views and sounds of hippos in the dam. Just keep an eye out for the honey badger at night.
The views from the deck at the restaurant are spectacular, pity the other viewing deck are not, maybe some shrub/tree management would help. The food and service at the restaurant was great, highly recommend the food.
A convenient camp inside the Kruger National Park with a filling station, chalets and a lovely restaurant.
My family and I spent 5 nights at Tsendze rustic camp site outside Mopani these last days. The pretty gardens at the entrance to the Mopani camp are super! Unfortunately, the rest of the "welcome" was less. So very disappointing, coming from the "camp of the year award winner" certificates on the admin office wall. The rubbish bins were overflowing, the area around the wooden walkway dirty and strewn with litter, all the lights on in the middle of the day and when asked the staff, nobody notices. There was no hand sanitizer at either entrance to the camp shop. I shudder to think what overseas guests would think and how they would rate us negatively. Not good enough Mopani!

The house keepers are friendly and they do their job up to standard. The camp is big enough to run ️around (exercise). The swimming pool is clean and big enough.
Not my favourite camp but worth a night's stay and a good sundowner at the dam will never disappoint.
The chalets are spacious and parents and 2 kids can be accomodated. It is my favourite camp with a pool for that hot summer days. The view from the restuarant is far and wide.
Great location on a cliff above a reservoir. Camp is left in a natural state, and has a great trail around the perimeter. Very nice pool, and some very productive game viewing rounds in the area. One of our favorites.
