KOI - Menlyn Maine

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Koi, a popular restaurant in Pretoria, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly hostess who promptly seated me at a table with a beautiful view of the restaurant's serene garden.

The ambiance at Koi was elegant and sophisticated, with dim lighting and tasteful decor. The seating was comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and intimate.

The menu at Koi offered a wide range of Asian-inspired dishes, from sushi and sashimi to stir-fries and noodle dishes. I decided to start with the miso soup, which was flavorful and comforting. The broth was rich and had just the right amount of saltiness, and the tofu and seaweed added a nice texture to the soup.

For my main course, I opted for the crispy duck with plum sauce. The duck was perfectly cooked, with a crispy skin and tender meat. The plum sauce added a sweet and tangy flavor that complemented the richness of the duck. The dish was served with a side of steamed vegetables and jasmine rice, which were cooked to perfection.

To end the meal, I couldn't resist trying the green tea ice cream. It was the perfect balance of creamy and refreshing, with a subtle green tea flavor that was not overpowering. It was a delightful way to cleanse the palate after the meal.

The service at Koi was exceptional. The waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable, providing recommendations and ensuring that I had a pleasant dining experience. The food was served promptly and was beautifully presented.

Overall, my experience at Koi was outstanding. The combination of delicious food, elegant ambiance, and attentive service made for a memorable dining experience. I would highly recommend Koi to anyone looking for a high-quality Asian dining experience in Pretoria.

Koi is a huge favourite for my wife and I. It serves The Capital hit guests which is a huge plus. The food is very well prepared and waiting times are not long. The restaurant is located at the entrance of Menlyn Maine which gives patrons a great view of the mall and quick access to the rest of the precinct. Ample seating is available in the restaurant, outside and upstairs to cater to all preferences. Definitely worth visiting.

I was very excited to try this restaurant by invitation from one of our suppliers, all went great during starters early afternoon on Saturday with great food being presented and also great service however as it got busy for the evening rush at the time our mains arrived to the table my lamb was cold I asked for it to be replaced with warm food that took forever to come, with a complement of 16 people at our table the food come in drips and drabs, with all sorts of issues from some people not receiving all their food to some done eating before others even got their food. I eventually received my lamb dish without my fries but it was raw with others at our table also complaining they'd receive their food raw and cold service at this point walked out the door with us having to chase down waiters to get a drink. Our desert arrived only a couple of minutes before our show we came to see at the arena so we tried to gulp it down to be in time but eventually left it cause it was way over salted on the ice cream. Great place great location nice vibe but seems like rush time all the wheels came off. I will not visit here again.

Food is good, but overpriced for what you get. Seating feels generic and cheap. Atmosphere is loud inside, not the music but other people talking. Feels like a gimmic restaurant; expensive but nothing special.

Try the dim sum it's delicious! Delicious from the pumpkin to the lamb. Service is good with friendly faces. Will be back for some sushi. Can recommend

If you looking for a great vibey place to eat and chill, Koi is that place. Amazing Asian flavors that will make you come back for more. Every meal is different and well presented. Clean and beautifully decorated. They have a beautiful setting of comfortable couches, there’s also a bar area with delicious cocktails or mocktails if you prefer.

Just this past Saturday 29 July, had a birthday dinner with friends. Only to be disappointed by the waiter who was nowhere to be found when you need him. Thought it is one of those busy days, but it got worse when it was time to eat. Had grilled lamb chops which came out fine but the side veges and puree were super salty. I think the chef spilled the salt and didn't correct it, or lost his measurement spoon. Yikes! Please check who was the Chef that evening we all complained about the salt and sweet beef. Please correct! Hopefully when one comes back, we will have a better experience. Lovely ambiance.

We had an exceptional waiter. The food was outstanding.service toptier. Atmosphere a little loud for me. Overall I will come back again. P.s. Forgot the name of our waiter, he had dreadlocks, and short, I do not want to guess his name

My 11 year old daughter and I decided to come to your restaurant on Saturday 19/02/22  just after 8pm.   We had just received bad service from a restuarant next door to yours and were truly disappointed. The minute we walked into your restuarant,   we were well taken care of.   The food was amazing,   the waiter, everything. Thank you so much

Always nice. Again with our favorite salmon cream cheese, spinach cream cheese and crispy duck … Yummy Yummy

We arrived at Koi during peak hour on a Saturday so it was quite packed. We sat by the bar waiting for a seated area to open up but we had so much fun sitting at the bar that we never moved. The bar staff was accomodating and friendly. The atmosphere enables conversation as it's not ridiculously loud. The drinks and dessert we ordered were delicious.

The cocktails were gross, the service was terrible and the food was subpar - not to mention they got my order wrong. When I brought this up, they didn't even bring a manager to talk to me about it. The price you pay is not worth any part of this experience.

KOI has to be my favorite restaurant in Pretoria East. The food is absolutely out of this world. I enjoy their beef noodles, beef rib-eye with mushrooms and their signature cocktails.
The restaurant is so beautiful and the people that go there as well very modern, well presented and well dressed.

While it's a great place to be and offer great food, the service upstairs is terrible and I am curious as to whether this has to do with the profile of the people who sit in the area. It is a strange.

Food was good. No complaints. I enjoyed my meal but the service was horrible. Arrived and asked if there’s a table available upstairs and the guy told me he doesn’t know and I must go check. I get upstairs and the waiters all ignored me and I literally had to walk up to a waiter and ask if I can sit at an empty table and I was told no sorry it’s reserved. Went back downstairs and asked for a table and I was told to find one without a reservation sign? Excuse me. I just found the staff to be a bit rude and not helpful. Food was lovely though. Not sure if I’d come back

A fine dining experience with a sophisticated service quality. I had the best tasting sushi and the waiters were really friendly too!

Visited the restaurant to wrap up the year with some colleagues. Ordered duck, it was so dry! We ordered some Dim Sum that was tasty, however our mains were average at best. I am assuming the duck was prepared at the same time as the Dim Sum and then spent 20 mins drying out under the kitchen pass.

In short definitely not worth the price tag, and would not recommend, especially when there are other options right there next to them. Two stars for the Dim Sum - Zero for rest of the food.

The food was amazing until i bit into my chips and found sand in it.i showed the waiter and he just said “askies” and left.not happy about that.

One of the best discoveries i have ever made.great vibe, great cocktails, the best Sushi! And great waiter Obvious.

Classy and high-end. Must have cash to splash, but well worth it. I had glad of Shirah, which was really good. My friends shared a bottle of Rose, which they couldn't get enough of. I don't recall the name though. I chose the duck which was a little disappointing. It was nicely presented and fun to build the little wraps, but it was dry, and tasted like chicken, which should never be the case. The sushi on the other hand, was sublime. A work of art. I have had sushi at plenty of restaurants, but this is without a doubt the best.
